So, I was invited to my bosses house. She's having a meeting for all the outside sales people from around the world. People are flying in from germany, sweden, japan, isreal, and the UK. The night before the meeting begins, she's hosting a dinner at her house and invited me.

cool. It's outside. lobster, steak, locally grown corn (that i'm bringing), wine (that i'm bringing), salad (that i'm bringing).

so, i'm a bit neurotic. or a perfectionist. or maybe i'm a worrier. whatever. i don't know. I'm already trying to figure out how i'm supposed to dress. We dress casual in the office. Jeans are standard, but it's perfectly acceptable to wear your workout clothes all day (i don't), and some people dress nicer in slacks and heels, or a button down shirt. My boss wears purple jeans almost every day.

Do i dress in jeans and sneakers and a cute top like i often wear to work and have my outfit say "I'm glad to be here and have a casually good time with all of you."
or do i dress in something nicer- slacks and a blouse and say "Hi. I'm stilleto. i'm professional."

also, do i bring her a hostess gift? i could bring a handmade glass piece- like a serving platter. or is the fact that i'm bringing wine, corn, and salad (ok, and some folding chairs and citranella candles) enough?

do i kiss my boss hello like i would kiss anyone who's house I was going to? (you know, on the cheek). She's not a warm person but she's very nice.

also, she said to arrive between 4-5pm. does that mean 4:30? what time should i get there?

I disagree with JH1 about arriving early. She is the boss, not your aunt so the *rules* are different. The fact that you are bringing all that stuff is MORE than enough. The handmade gift would be a very nice touch, but I wouldn't do it unless I liked the woman or REALLY wanted to brown-nose. Nothing wrong with brown-nosing. Seems a smart move in fact. As for whether or not to kiss her. If she is not a warm person, I wouldn't. It might make HER feel awkward. But if she leans in when greeting you then the *air hug and kiss* would be more than acceptable.

As for dress, I would wear something in between as there will be guests from other countries. If it were me (which you are not so my advice is like everybody else's asshole LOL) I would feel dutibound to dress up a bit as I would feel I am representing the US. I would wear a long casual skirt and nice T (read = no boobs or midsection hanging out and nothing with GAP printed across the chest but something made of T-shirt fabric but a bit nicer perhaps with a cute print or some such). I ALWAYS feel a nice long casual skirt is appropriate. It is casual but comfortable and a bit dressy. You can either dress it up or down with your accessories. I wear long skirts A LOT as I am short and this makes me appear to be taller not to mention the comfort can't be beat and I enjoy being a bit dressed up.

As for when to arrive 4:30 seems a safe time. Some Europeans are infamous for being late while punctuality is big in other cultures ie Germans are well-known for punctuality while a Magyar couldn't be on time if their life depended on it.

What will the weather be like? Is it still hot enough to wear a skirt? I would wear a skirt and that says, "hi, this is important enough for me to not wear my work clothes, but I'm still casual and want to have a good time". I doubt anyone will be professional dressed, but might not be in jeans. I dunno though. Whenever I'm in doubt, even a BBQ, if I dont know the ppl I always wear a skirt / sundress and bring a jacket /sweater in case of unwanted boobage
