i'm not a kissy person either but my coworker asked me and i started wondering what i was supposed to do. my boss is european and those fukkers kiss anything.

it's not a picnic though- it's a sit down dinner, outside. its lobster and steak, not burgers and hotdogs.
most of my clothes are casual, so even if i wear a long skirt, it'll probably be a wrap around kind with sandals.

Oh, not a picnic...I would go on the upper end of business casual then. Does that make sense? It is late, so a little more formality is okay, but I don't think people will dress up too much considering that your office is so casual. When in doubt, it is never bad etiquette to ask the hostess about the dress.

I guess if your boss likes the kissy kissy thing let her do the lean in for it first -- most of the time it is an air kiss on each side of the face. I hate that, but I will do it if it is what everyone is doing and is expected.
