I'm dieting right now, so I know to keep my carbohydrate intake relatively low. However, I feel that for the post-workout feeding, it is o.k. and actually beneficial to take in a good amount of high glycemic index carbs (i.e. 50-60g for me) along with protein powder (about 30-40g). I think most of you would agree with me on this (I hope anyway). My question is this: Does it really matter where these fast carbs come from? I mean, dieting is unpleasant as it is, do I really have to have honey or grape juice for post-workout carbs, or is it o.k. to indulge and have tasty carbs like cookies or ice cream? I mean, sugar is sugar right? I'd appreciate any insight/experience in this matter. Thanks.

I would just feel so darn guilty eating ice cream and cookies after a workout - but geez that would be a nice change of pace!!

Honestly, from a very technical perspective - sure, sugar is sugar...but I think it's very important about the form that sugar comes in - not to mention what else comes along with it!!

Take your grape juice for example - it's pretty much water and simple sugar, right? We're talking fast absorption - which is probably what you're after following a balls to the wall workout!!

So consider cookies and ice cream - sure the sugars are simple - but you've also got quite a bit of fat sneaking in there....and you've got to assume that this is going to slow down absorption considerably.....

Just my two cents - but you know what? If you try this method and it works - LET ME KNOW!!

cheers

I agree w/ stryc-9 as I said on the anabolic board-cookies and ice cream are not for someone who is cutting-if you were bulking, it would not matter

Actually if i'm not mistaken MRBMJ stated that if fat was a problem it would be better to take the sucrose than it would the dextrose. There's a good thread that explains this a few threads down.

Yeah... I guess deep down I knew what the answer would be lol. Thanks for the input... I guess I'll have to save the cookies and ice cream for my free days...
