I can't find it, but here is an article that discusses the causal fallacy in those studies that purport to prove that low IQ's are the cause of religiosity:

Believe it or not, you are actually incorrect about that. There is a positive correlation between Christianity and IQ. I don't think there is any causal link there, but when you consider the population of the entire world, there is a strong correlation between literacy and religion and also IQ. I read a study about this. Let me see if I can find the link.

Bell published a meta analysis in MENSA magazine. forty-four studies were analyzed and only four didn't find a correlation. One Christian websites managed to find a single religious scientific Nobel laureate. Ninety-three percent of the members of the national academy of sciences identified themselves as non-religious. Even among the less eminent scientists 60% are not religious.
