Well, what's taboo and what's acceptable to say are decidec by society at large. "Fag" is somewhat more acceptable than "nigger", for better or worse.

does it make it politically correct when we purposely misspell offensive words even in a discussion. i guess we can only have this type of debate on chat boards.

Funny how you misspelling the words somehow changes anything.

Just because you say or shout the word nigger does not mean you have the corresponding racist attitude, just like you could be the biggest racist out there and never say it.

Words like that are loaded with racist overtones. However, it would be an error to spit "racist" or "homophobe" to someone who used the word for the reason I mentioned above.

no discussion of homosexuality would be complete without the obligatory "any criticism of homosexuality proves the speaker is himself homosexual" line.

offering no basis and forcing the speaker to prove a negative, it's a brilliant tactic and appropriately repeated ad nauseum.

I said no such thing and I wonder why you came to that conclusion.

If you're not aware that a great majority of the public thinks bodybuilding -- a sport where men try to get pretty, oil themselves and display themselves to one another -- is extremely gay, you should do a little reading. (And you should get your hands on some of Mr. Weider's infamous memos. The net is rife with rants about how bodybuilding is NOT gay. )

What I am suggesting is that the continual distancing from being a "faggot" -- use of the term in a pejorative sense when another could be used as well -- seems partly motivated by the bodybuilding culture's habituated need to assure everyone that its members are not gay.
