The house I'll be living in is somewhere in this picture. I won't be fully moved in till late April, but I'll start moving my crap the first of the month.

Stuff is all falling into place really nicely. The scuba stuff is taken care of. I already have people signed on to start renting the house I bought through August at weekly rates. I found a place to rent that's dirt cheap and has water views. I'm leaving work on very good terms. Now I just have to find the courage to say goodbye to all my friends here. A week ago I was excited and I still am....but right now I'm a little bummed out. This is the first move I'm making where I'm really leaving a lot behind.

Very southeast corner of north carolina....close to family too, which was a good part of why I chose that area.

Iggy....when I'm not on a dive boat, hell yes. That area is usually packed down during the summer and it's impossible to park. Clearly, I'll just have to walk a few steps lol. I'm still pinching myself that I have water views from my bedroom window.

Good luck with hurricanes. :)

P.S. I'm tired of subsidizing people that pay way too much for a house in a place that will be devastated by nature in the next five to ten years and my tax money goes to bail them out via Fed funding .

lol....this area rarely gets slammed by storms. I don't think in my lifetime that corner of NC has ever had worse than a little bit of roof damage in even the worst of them.

Yes....but my grandmothers house which sits just a couple rows back from the beach is not. And it still stands with zero damage in any hurricane. Unlike some areas, we know how to build and prepare for storms. We've had some nasty ones come through and barely had an issue with them beyond having to do a little dredging afterward.

that looks so gangster

its tough to leave alot of your friends behind, but it happens sometimes. gotta embrace the new chapter and what seems like your dream

should be really excited

I honestly still can't believe it. Once I start moving in I'll post pictures of the new digs. It's unreal to me. My friends can come pick me up by boat or by car. Tht alone makes me feel like I stepped into another universe.

I'm just asking that you don't come to me for moneyz when your God punishes you for pre-marital sex with a century hurricane that devastates everyone in your community...just sayin. :)

Won't happen. I know the risks and if I get fucked, I get fucked. But it would take the most freakish weather ever to put me in that position anyway. We've had cat 5's that didn't tear down our houses out there.

Al Gore says otherwise....you'll be underwater from simple global warming and rising sea levels in ten to twenty years tops. :) If you aren't killed by a super hurricane caused by global warming before then...

Stop it...nefertitties is a diver and knows full well mother nature will kill your ass in a heartbeat no matter how much education or money you have. :)

Ironic that you mention him. Al gore has a house a quarter of a mile from the house I bought and am renting out.

truly devastating(category 5) hurricanes only occur about every 14-15 years on average in the US, and the likelyhood of that hitting in your area is completely up in the air.
rather deal with that shit once then be stuck in a cold, miserable fuckin place for 4 months out of the year for every year im living there.

besides, anytime you live ON The beach the construction is designed to be a certain to withstand hurricanes. its usually the mainland that gets fucked.

Exactly. That's why I said...we know how to build for storms. My grandmother's house has stood for almost 80 years now with zero damage. It's areas that don't prepare for the risk that get screwed.

That looks great, Nef. Don't worry about your friends. Ask them to come by. I'm sure they'll take you up on the offer.

So I have to subsidize risk takers four times in my life? I have no problem with people living on the coast but eat the shit when it happens, ain't my problem. We have people here that live in 20 year flood zones...sucks to be you with no flood insurance and you bought in year 19.....beach houses are awesome but pay your own upkeep through insurance or a big bank account.

Please list the last time you payed anything for a storm hitting the SE corner of NC.

Just looked it up....100 years, two category three storms. NY has gotten hit worse. Eat it, bitches.

Don't worry....he really doesn't know what he's talking about, so he can't rain on my parade here :)

Apparently he has no comment about my having al gore for a nieghbor either.

Again....list the last time a storm hit that area of NC where it wasn't handled on a local level...

The last time I paid for insurance... I wish my state government allowed insurance companies to insure locally. It's the same reason health care insurance will sky rocket under the Obama plan...fat and stupid peeps are going to make constant claims while healthy people, like myself, subsidize them. It seems that making good decisions and healthy choices only burden a person as we are forced to "spread the risk" by paying for the decisions of the stupid.

Um, you're clearly not reading my posts. And obviously also on an unrelated soapbox. Take it to the politics board, this area of NC probably has less weather realted bullshit than the midwest.

My comment to Al Gore being your neighbor would be that apartments use 1/5 the energy of a house; You can extrapolate from there....

Java is pretty stubborn, you guys might want to stop baiting him with replies if you want him to stop. Just sayin.

I'll take a coastal state over a square state any day

jus sayin

was that still baiting?

I'm stubborn because I'm right...especially about weather. There were hurricanes that hit NYC...very North and unheard of a couple hundred years ago, that destroyed islands and if you project them to today would decimate the city. NYC peeps were crying like little girls about heavy rain and 70 mph winds...

meh, being right isnt always necessary hun

more to the point, making sure everyone else knows youre right definitely isnt necessary

jus sayin

also, did you check your k?

nah...I like java when hes not inadvertently calling me ( or not so indirectly?) a bad soldier :)

I'm stubborn because I'm right...

Except....you're not lololol. You haven't put forth one bit of relevent evidence specific to that area that shows that living there is any worse than living in an area with tiny risk of freak tornados or freak earthquakes or freak snowstorms...

Case in point if I were moving to kansas, Java wouldn't be bitching about subsidizing me for risk of tornados lololol....he has no familiarity with the area, whereas I've grown up around there and know exactly what's in place.

I have an opinion of female soldiers and I've written a paper about it and argued in my college debate class as well as expressing it on EF.

We should be allowed to put the word 'toy' in the middle there. I'm still shocked they aren't allowed in combat, wtf?

Where did I propose an exception for tornado damage?

The fact of the matter is that Tornado insurance is cheaper and most home owners are covered by it in the Midwest without government subsidy is because based on actuarial data it has a small impact. You have a hurricane and it impacts massive amounts of people which is why insurance companies are subsidized by the government for hurricane damage....

Again....please list the crazy hurricanes that have hit cape fear....

java....Stop hijacking my thread. Seriously. Take your soapbox elsewhere. I needed a place to vent about my conflicting excitement about moving and leaving friends. I did not create this for you to take another oportunity to attempt to piss on happiness and start a political debate. Enough already. Eventually I'm going to just start deleting your posts.

Entrapment!!! lol I kid

lol @ people shitting on nef's dreams. Good for you nef. When's nev coming to stay with you there?

I do empathize with java about people who make good decisions paying for people who make poor decisions though. However living by the coast in most cases is a decision I can support!!! :)

nev's got an open invitation of course haha

I'd put up my Nolan Ryan rookie card that sooner or later that area is going to get slammed. Hurricanes travel that path all the time, what is the chances that is always gets passes by the big ones. We have knowledge of a couple 100 years out of 1000s.

Sure...but is the risk so great that it's "stupid" to live there? Come on, let's be real here.

lmao...java will clearly not rest till one of his posts about my deleting his posts gets left alone....so have at it ol chap.

Im down for a meat up, but keep it to PM's. We're throwing up in Nef's thread.
My bad okay Pm coming at you. Nef sorry I was in here acting like Mitch. The NC coast is very beautiful, I'm sure you are gonna love it for years to come. Ole SB is up that way alot.

Looks fabulous, I'm sure everything will work out fine
Sometimes you have to leave things/people behind to move on and do great things
:)

why would people come in here and shit all over a perfectly delightful thread with beautiful pics?

assholes.

I've noticed a consistent theme with this move I am making. A lot of people poo poo-ing on it for one reason or another and I keep getting the feeling it's because some of them resent that I have the balls to chase happiness. People who are stuck in a rutt don't want to be told or shown that it's that way because they let it be.

I would be more than happy to come up one weekend and help you move your stuff.:rose::heart::heart:

Well I absolutely, totally frigging applaud you 110% and I'd go with you if I could!!!

In three years my husband hits 59 ... I've had it up to my eyeballs with winter. I HATE it here. He's promised me we can liquidate EVERYTHING and move south, to the coast, like you. And as you know, in certain coastal areas (where there are barrier islands and capes) the problem is less hurricanes than storm surges. That's why the houses are up in the air.

My kids are grown, I have no family ... losing the coven is going to be hard but we have connections down there with other groups. I'll learn my lessons and carry them to others.

Life is to be lived with gusto! So follow your bliss and anyone who runs you down for it is a miserable sack of shit! If you don't do it while you're young something will happen to strap you down (love, job, mortgage, kids, health) and then you have to wait until you're an old bitch like me, hoping that your body will give you a few good years to live your dreams.

you hit the nail on the head. it's unfortunate they have to be that way.
