How do guys in jail get buff?

Have you ever wondered about that? Yea they lift weights religiously since theres probably nothing else to do, but do they get enough protein?

I'm pretty sure the jail cafeteria doesn't give them quality protein sources every 3 hours. Do they have to steal the balognae from the new inmates lunch tray in order to get their daily protein fix? I heard sperm contained protein. Not sure though.

Just wondering since I've seen documentaries on jailhouse powerlifting.

Ya Bruce I have always wondered the same exact thing. Obviously their diet is not worth the shit. Me and my buddies have had this discussion numerous times. The only thing I can think of is they get soo much rest! I mean imagine if all a guy did was bust ass working out and remember they do all good old hardcore movements. Bench squat barbell curls. All free weights and no cables to fuck around on. It has to be all the rest. Another thing I always wondered was if some of the guys are genetic freaks and wouldnt lift if they werent in there so we would never know how big they could get.

ah jail, the good old days.

I do remember a lot of trading. anothers Oranges for commisary(snickers bars)

The oranges were for home-brew as those retards called it.

But now, you're talking about prison.

I can only geuss an exchange of scrambled eggs for ciggs maybe.

Very interestin...i was in county for six months and got pretty jacked but was probly only gettin 100 or so grams of protein a day...mostly starchy foods and not much of it...made very good gains though...my only thought is maybe cuz your so inactive (except for workin out)that ur not really burnin any calories you eat so your body has plenty to recover...ive wondered that same thing and thats my only conclusion...

You can purchase protein powder, oatmeal, canned tuna, mackerel, roast beef ....from the commissary.

Also, everybody has a job in prison and working in the cafeteria you get double rations and the opportunity to steal food.

LOL! Games up. It's been a scam all this time.

post that on the anabolic board and see what happens. im serious, i want to see the debate bro

as far as getting buff in prison, when absolutely all you do is eat, train, and sleep, you bet your ass you are going to get results.

Attica! Attica! Attica!
lolzzzz

For real bro, look at me - I was so tired after the riot.

most of them probably don't even lift until they get to prison, thus they see great gains because they are noobs to it.

Tons of people are a little jacked naturally. Then they start working out a bit and BOOM, huge gains. No change to diet or anything.

I do think 2g/lb protein is a scam. I eat a high protein diet because I love meat, but I've never specifically focused on 2g/lb. As long as there is some good protein in each meal, 5x/day you are good to go imo.

because thehy no longer eat mcdonalds, tacos, eat healthy food, wakl around and exercfise a lot and play sports.

Personally they should lock 'em up, feed them noting but mikey d[s, make them all 400lbs, violence goes down cuz theyh're too lazy to getup and let them all die from obesity. Of course society would never allow that!

guess long term lock down faciliies are mandated to provided nutrioius meals

I worked at Angola State Penn which is a working farm prison, so there was an abundance of fresh veggies and shit, butt some local jails around here like to give you bologna sammiches and koolaid as your main staple

LMAO @ "eat healthy food"! Dude, seriously?

Prison food is basically crap tasting junk food. Walk your local supermarket and pick out the cheapest off-brand food items you can find and you'll get an idea of the best stuff inmates ever get.

the punks got free commissary by robbing the young and vulnerable

Then, i punched a hole through the wall and flew off...

yep ... alot of refined carbs to fill them up, e.g. white bread, macorini, etc ...

TITCR

Also, the same companies that supply prison food supply food for public schools..just sayin'.

Doing what? I can't picture you as a CO.

I don't think federal prison had that same nutritious food mandate. We weren't shortterm at all. All we got fresh was apples, bananas, tomatoes, and broccoli. I hate bananas and apples now.

You served fed time? I heard it was lobster and champagne for fed inmates...:)

I realized that I was trying to kill myself.... I still drink but it's one or two...with a meal. It's amazing how many women that love tea tottlers...and bad boys.

wished I had your discipline in giving up booze & the wimmenzs

well ... at least booze :)

You're thinking of minimum security. Carswell is on an air force base in Tx and is mostly medium.

I had a friend who did some fed time on a AF base in FL.

He spent most of his dad walking around picking up trash.

He befriended some airmen that wood bring him Popeye's fried chicken and stuff.

this is complete bull and myth.

I did my time at Fort Devens in Mass. Food was complete crap.

although, you can smuggle food in...but lobster? Come on.

No shit huh????is that state or county????I was in bellerica for 6 mths. then walpole for a while and i got to say....food wise, state has better food and i heard federal has even better food but idk.....belerica....effin shit hole and overcrouded like you read about...

wow, 2 dui's java? never figured you for a lush (like me)

I had one DUI charge but $10G later it was a "consumption of alcohol by minor" (I went through a road block) aka safety check.

Now I only drive drunk during the day (just kidding you MADD mofos)

Regardless of your grub in prison, if you haven't lifted/workout prior, you're gettin' jacked.

Fat people lose weight/gain muscle in prison, cuz they gotta.

Matttheskywalker helped me out with some legal advice via phone, btw.....dude gave some good advice :)

Nah. This was a Federal prison summer camp. Food friggin sucked ass worst than county.

County was heaven where I was. Served double portions. got fat quick.

a lot of dark meat chicken legs that were frozen for 2 decades. Fish tilapia that was shit. Turkey that tasted like ass.

some guys were sneaking off at night to hit the local grocery store. No fence or guards around a camp.

One guy was making beer. Got drunk and partied every night. It was awesome.

The federal probation was the real sentence.

What if eating 2g of protein per lbs was the biggest scam on earth ?

It is. In the jail I was in there was no protein powder available, but the food was decent. Definitely at least 30g of protein per meal, plenty of veggies.

The hands down #1 exercise was push ups in the cell. Guys talk about doing a 1,000 pushups like we might talk about benching 225 on here. Every single day.

Being in jail made me change my mind about hypertrophy. I think it's all about increasing the capacity for work by doing lots and lots of sets.

These guys were just jacked, shredded, and there were no weights. A pull up bar, a dip bar, a half basketball court, and staying up all night doing push ups.

Oh they did dips too.

I don't know how many other guys did this but we each got a giant bag for all our stuff, I'd put all my library books in there and do curls with it.

How much time did you do?

What kind of a facility?

I was in a temporary lockup type facility for three days, then five days. It's the type of place you spend a few days before going upcounty, upstate, or up country (jail, prison, federal prison respectively).

The last time I was in long enough to go up county and I did a total of 27 days in there, maybe like 20 of em in the real county jail.

So I can only talk about jail, which is what this thread is about. Not prison.

Also jail is a county thing, prison is state level. So there are as many different jail systems as there are counties. Different food, different rules, different commissary selections. I can only talk about this jail I was in, which from the accounts of the guys who had a lot more experience than I, was one of the nicest in the country and the nicest in the state.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread I worked on a project for a few months at Angola State Peniterary which is a notorious shithole.

I entered many parts of the facility, but never seen any weight equipment. I even entered Camp J which was the 23 hour lock down unit. That's where I picked up lunch for my crews. The first day I picked up lunch I met a very large blaque dude in a corridor. I was shitting on myself as I didn't see a guard in sight. As soon as he handed me the lunches I looked up in the towers and every guard had him in their sights.

They keep the inmates pretty busy as the prison is a working, viable farm. After a full day in the Louisiana sun farming I'm not sure how energetic you would be for weight training.

No way to say this without it coming out racist, but if you're Caucasian at Angola you're life is going to especially suck due to the demographics.

It was an eerie feeling driving through the gates every morning knowing many would never leave that place.

or federal.

Definitely a huge difference amongst county jails. I was in Cobb County Detention (Metro Atl) for about two weeks then Carswell Federal for 12 months. Cobb was nicer all the way around, but a lot of the women in my building at Carswell howled about how nice it was compared to their various county lockups.

My drinking was all about womanizing...first DUI was at age 21..pulled over in Upper Arlington Ohio for going 48 in a 45 while not signaling a lane change...while taking the stripper I was banging home at 2:00 AM on a Saturday. The second was after my divorce about seven years later...after a night of womanizing.

What the fuck? Why the fuck are all you guys getting thrown into prison? I thought this was a workout website? I'm totally blown away. But I guess I have just been lucky to not have been caught. Do you guys feel like you deserved to be in prison? Did you consistently do illegal shit or was it unlucky? Good lord.

yea i'm enjoying reading this thread, i've been fascinated with prisons

A lot of people who've never had to spend time in one seem to be fascinated with them. Pretty common interest for some reason.

I watch Lockup often.

It never ceases to amaze me how inmates in long term facilities still do stupid shit to even make their lives even more fucked up.

They get locked down in isolation for months and a few weeks later they repeat the same bullshit offense.

From that show, it seems that most eventually get it that they won't defeat the system.

It might have been a bullshit charge, I was charged with an F2 for giving a black eye and bloody nose from one punch is a bar fight, an F2 is 5+ years in prison and I made an Alford plea to an F4 aggravated assault to avoid trial. However, I've been in a lot of bar fights that resulted in nothing more than an ejection or perma ban. In the army it was an accepted behavior...you perform some extra duty and it isn't just forgiven but aggressive behavior is encouraged. :)

Holy crap man. I know it's usually minor, but even that one that went wrong... does that make you think twice before punching a dude out again? Even if you know you can? I would think it has to?

yeah i've hulu'ed or tele viewed all the lockups and the raw lockups.
and i've seen all the other prison shows that you proly have...i always imagine myself in that position and how i'd react...i've been known to cruise the DOC inmate locator for peeps i read about...one kid i looked up was 16 when he went to prison for life w/no parole.
imagine going thru puberty in prison with no chance of leaving ever fug me :(

Those prepackaged plea "deals" suck ass. They are never lenient. You know prosecutors come on like they're doing you a favor when it's just designed to make things easier for them and the Court.

What I found interesting was how educated many inmates become after years of incarceration. When I was in "reception" a max security lockdown for 23 hours a day... my cell mate had been in and out of prisons since a teen and he had a tremendous grasp of history and science. I actually enjoyed our conversations but when he claimed he was a career criminal...and had been locked up for more years than he was free as an adult...I suggested he give up crime because he sucked at it.

and it definetly makes things go smoother in the courtroom, imagine if every knucklehead took every case to trial.
clogged up...

In law school I worked for both the prosecutors office and the public defenders office. They, prosecutors, intentionally overcharge to get a deal and the defense intentionally delays to negotiate.

When I worked at Angola I joked with a guard saying, "I want a job here". He was more than certain that the Warden would hire me.

The pay sucked, but they had a 20 year retirement plan and low cost housing along with other staff ammenities at the facility.

At the time the inmmates were building the staff a golf course.

One of my toy soldier friends from way back is a CO....they start at 40k a year plus benefits here and they pretty much sit on their ass all day doing nothing.

Hey maybe prisoners have more testosterone than people in society. I read a statistic that said people in prison had more testosterone on average than people in society. Maybe it's their extra testosterone that allows them to get buff.

I luv the wiminz but every stupid decision I have ever made was clouded by a wiminz...

I got that once. For me it was the worst possible type of punishment. I get stir crazy just having to hang around the house one day. Medium sucked in a way b/c there was absolutely no tolerance for any sort of violence. Max inmates had to stab each other to get isolation. I pushed someone (after she pushed me) and she fell on her ass w/o even slight injury and I got locked in what was essentially a single-occupany bathroom for 5 days.

Good point. It certainly doesn't hurt.

inb4 "Plus they are all black, so of course."

i remember where i saw that statistic. It was on national geographics channel. They did a show about testosterone and they mentioned that people in prison had more testosterone on average and that may be the cause of them being in prison. More testosterone more violence and more muscle mass.

It's absolutely true that on average, as a population, criminals have higher levels of testosterone than average. Seen it many times. However no causal link has been established.

However there is definitely a causal link between more testosterone and more muscle mass so it makes sense.

Was inside for over a year. You do get some protein from tuna, litlle chicken, milk. Carbs from oats, brown bread and a hell of a lot of starchy carbs like potatoes and rice. These are under rated foods, too much emphasis on just protein by the supplement industry. Carbs are vital to gain size. And another thing i learned was that everybody inside trains really heavy and to past failure, a lot of forced reps etc. Look at dorain yates workout, a lot of forced reps at the end of a set. Going past failure. That's what gives you the growth along with ample rest. Only get 1 hr to train so you have to go all out. Most people on the out cannot comprehend that level of intensity and overload.

what kinda weights did you have access to?s

This damn neverending thread is making me think of Jenn. You know how tigers are beautiful, but scary as hell at the same time? That was Jen. A young, very attractive Korean chick who was a bona fide murderer. Five tears....two on the left, three on the right. Christ I actually feel kinda afraid thinking about her. You didn't ever look her in the eye. Total fucking sociopath. You'd feel your whole body go cold if she happened to look at you.

She should've been on damn death row. Caught a relatively minor fed charge and ended up in a medium security building with us pussies.
