FUCK, I did it again!!!!

Back to the original post. babbabuee I would think that squats and deadlifts are the last two exercises that you would want to do while your back is injured. Take er cool my man.

very true.

stick with light weight leg presses.
make sure your abs are tight as that'll take pressure off your lower back.

Bab -

man, tough luck on the back... gotta be patient and get yourself back in form so you can start your cycle! Little lay-off now means BIG gains sooner, right? I know it's tough, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. :)

Blackbeard - you're a fruitcup. Goodbye.

wait the few weeks and heal up man. plenty of time to get big - HEALTHY.

funny thing is I was doing 20 rep squats with about 170lbs and it wasn't really bothering my back at all, neither was the dead lifts at about 275lbs. But when I was doing those leg presses, I found that my ass would come off the seat just a bit at the bottom of the press and that's when I felt the surge of pain. I'm feeling better today, but definitely not good enough to get back in the gym. I'm going to hit shoulders tomorrow and then next week just slowly get back into it, slowly, I have to keep saying that SLOWLY.
thanks for all the support guys.

I tore ligaments in my back from a surfing accident... during a hurricane, but it does take quite a bit of time to recuperate. 40butpumpin gave some good advice with the knee stretch. The doc in the hospital told me the same thing.

Don't do deads or squats or anything taxing to your back. Even though it might feel strong, it takes very little to hurt it again if it's not fully healed. I couldn't even run for a month, walking was bad enough.

You should ask your doc how long he thinks you should take off for back work. Nobody here really knows the extent of the injury as well as the doctor probably would.

Good sig bro:)

Thanks man... and thanks for the quote! I laughed SO hard when you pulled that in the 'yellow sperm' thread... hahahahahha!

Bab -

if you're having troubles on the leg press, wait until your back heals and do what some of my buddies used to do when we were playing ball at college...

Find a piece of orthopedic foam, or bring something that can fit into the small of your back and put it there while you lift. Your shoulder blades and your hips will still remain on the press when you're doing the lift, but it will take a lot of strain off your back since it will be in a naturally arched position (your body should be curved away from the back of the seat). BUT START LIGHT WHEN YOU DO THIS THE FIRST TIME! It's a little bit different feeling if you do it right, and it takes time getting used to... no need to put 900 lbs. on the sled and waste your back again, then write off the method because you didn't really feel the ins and outs of having a supported back when on LP.

Maybe something to try... ?

Good luck!

Doc,
I think I'm off that leg press for a quite a while, because it seems to be the one thing that does stress my lower back, even more than deads or squats.

DeepZen,
I agree with you, even though it felt strong, it was quite easy to reinjure. Now I know that and even if I do feel strong, I'm going to stay light for a while before I stack on any weight.

you guys are the best... I was so down yesterday and today, after this outpouring of support from you guys I feel better mentally. Oh and these vicodin and flexeril's aren't hurting my mood any, that's for sure :)
