Ephedrine or Ma Huang?

Hey everyone i asked my girlfriend to pick me up some ephedrine when she was down by the supplement store and they sold her ma huang instead. I looked online and found a little bit of information on it and it seems like ma huang is the plant that ephedrine is made from. I know there are alot of gurus on here though that will be able to give me an explanation of the two and if i should us this instead in my ECA stack.
