Calves and Hams (Whats a muscle feel like when it's about to tear?)

Any of you guys ever experience this?

I alternate SLDL and angled lying leg curls for my hamstrings. When I'm doing the curls really heavy, I get an INTENSE contraction/knot in my right calf muscles. Only the right. Goes away the second the set is done, but on every squeeze at the top it feels like it's going to burst.

Is this not a healthy thing? I don't want to just tear the thing.

When it tears...you will know it.

Hope someone can help you here...

Just hop off of it...massage it a bit...stretch it a bit and you should be okay. Usually...if something is about to tear...it will not feel like that. You usually will feel a sharp pain and then an extremely intense burning sensation...it really really hurts.

you need to concentrate on using just your hams when doing the leg curl. I too had this problem, and it is caused by pointing your toes upwards toward the ceiling(if you were to lie down on the machine). relax your ankle and lift with your hams. you might have to drop the weight in order to get the feeling of just your hams working, though.

Actually, I point them down and thought maybe that was the problem. I'll try relaxing my calves more though, although I already concentrate pretty hard on just the contraction. Thanks.

No damage could be done though in anyones opinion.

my only other guess is the leverage point is too much on your calves when you curl. or you have the curl part on your calves instead low by your ankles.

You feel a twitch go across the muscle almost like an electric current flowing through it. This is the signal to stop! Right there! Put the weight down! If you're half way through a bench press stop and let the weight rest on your chest, stop pushing. Let your spotter take it. I tore my tricep, not a detachment, but a tear. I felt what I described above and kept going and even did another rep. It tore and looked like I got hit with a baseball bat, real bad bruise. Recently I was doing reverse hack squats a little too wide and on the way up I felt the twinge, I stopped, my partner took the weight and it was just a slight pull. Able to do legs the next leg day. I hope this helps everybody.
