i saw that episode, it was great. Surprisingly factual. Sad thing is, most practicing mormons don't know all of the info that episode presented. (e.g. Joseph smith looked into a hat when translating the plates).

I'd like to keep this thread non personal and non threatening.

I am sure WOotoom is not mormon, and personally I don't care who is or isn't mormon on here, if they are a good bro, then that is fine by me. When I speak of the religion, I am not doing so in a way to say "So and so is STUPID, your a stupid mormon" I am talking about the organization and institution. I know many mormons and ex mormons that are VERY GOOD people. I can't blame them for falling into the trap that is mormonism.. its very well crafted and provides a lot of things that people really long for.. stability in family.. strong emphasis on morals.. they give people a meaning and purpose in life and people love it. There are many successful and smart people that have fallen into it.

I agree 100% man. But like I said, I don't blame them.

Joseph smith was VERY smart, very charismatic. There are stories that people tarred and feathered him one week, and were listening to him preach and joining the church the next! that was the type of charisma and charm the man had.

He got married, but realized that the world was his oyster.. so many beautiful women out there, so polygamy was his solution. He got a revelation directly from GOD about it. And it even had his wife's name in it. Funny how he didn't have the balls to make that one public for many many years.

The church has had to back track on polygamy, and on their stance on african americans. They will one day backtrack on their stance on homosexuality as well. (right now they think its somehow a SIN and you can't be a mormon if you are homosexual).

he was a nut. Joseph Smith was disenchanted with religion early in his life, and it is possible that he simply created a religion that he could be satisfied with. He was supposedly given the golden tablets by the angel Moroni. We are asked to believe that Moroni also took the tablets back when Smith's enemies attempted to steal them. tablets no where to be found?

I'm familiar with the gold plates and the Angel Moroni.

I also realize that no one else ever physically saw the plates. Some people (7 I think) signed something that said they had seen them, but later recanted that when they left the church saying they only saw them in a vision.

I realize that most of the prophecies were crap as well.

The biggest hole though is the book of Abraham. He translated it from funeral scrolls that he got from mummies. The church reported that these were lost in the Chicago fire. But then, later on, they turned up and Egyptian experts were able to analyze them and translate them and they were simple funeral texts, nothing more.

Did you ever see how Joseph smith drew on human looking heads and what not because some of the original art was ripped? HUMAN HEADS!! these were really jackal and bird heads that the Egyptians used but he completed made up his own thing. He translated them to mean whatever he wanted.

I am surprised anyone stayed a member of the church after that bombshell was outed.

Now I know a Mormon who straight up admits that Joseph Smith was a fraud, but she still believe in "the gospel" of Jesus, and thinks that the mormon version of this is the truest that we have!

If you can admit that Joseph Smith was a fraud, then everything falls apart.. the book of mormon.. the book of abraham.. the whole idea that jesus visted north america.. etc.

I am well aware of what is going on in Colorado city.. it sucks... men fucking 12 year girls... it should be illegal. People wonder why the mormons were persecuted back in the late 1800s.. it was people saw them for what they were.. religion kooks that tried to bend the laws to suit them (multiple wives, etc).

Did you knwo they opened a bank that was a complete scam?

And what about the mountain meadows massacre.. the mormons dressed up as Indians and killed people travelling to California! It came from the mormon church, that much was proved, but they never tied it directly to Brigham Young.

My good friend is 35.. Mormon.. recently left the church because he read up on the true history of Joseph Smith and those fanatical crackpots.. his life is ruined because of that church... and this guy is just another glowing example.
