Ashcroft turns 2ND AMENDMENT on its head, argues for personal right to bear arms

Guns are designed for one purpose: to kill. Drugs and alcohol are not.

I haven't thought much about the tasers.

I agree w/you on that, guns ARE designed to kill when it all breaks down, BUT a gun can NOT likk on it's own, it requires a user to accomplish its intended purpose. Instead of blaming the gun for every crime that's commited w/one, we need to address the issue of the person holding the gun and how they got it. Like I keep saying, law-abiding gun owners are (in most cases) NOT the ones commiting gun-related crimes. The problem is the black market guns that ANYONE can get a hold of, not the ones in gun stores and properly equipped homes....

As far as children getting a hold of the gun you keep in the home for protection, well, if you properly protect your guns, your children will not be able to get thier hands on them, and if you properly educate your children, they will understand that guns are not toys.... I have 2 kids under the age of 10 and neither of them EVER have access to my guns unless we are at the range.....

Sorry, but I don't want to live in a world where everyone who can operate a gun and hasn't been to prison is armed. And neither do the majority of Americans, as we found out in repeated polls after Littleton.

I agree. I just want to live in a country where everyone who meets the above criteria has option of owning an appropriate gun. No, I don't think the general public should be sporting every machine gun on the market.

I remember when my father, in a panic that marauding criminals would leave the inner city and invade our home on a golf green, got a handgun.

My mother was furious. My father gave us stern talks about respecting guns. Nevertheless, in order to assure my mother that the gun was inaccessible, my father had to put the family weapon in a lockbox in the attic....where it still languishes as a family joke.

Those stories about blowing robbers' heads off as they come up the stairs-- or putting them under house arrest with your pistol --are entertaining but I wonder how often this really happens.

I agree on that.... there is no reason for Joe Citizen to own fully automatic assault rifles, that's ridiculous...lol If you CHOOSE to own an appropriate home protection weapon, i.e. handgun/shotgun, I believe law-abiding people should have the option to own weapons of thier choice not to include machine guns of course..... lol

Well, in the same way you can argue that if you outlaw guns, only criminals will have guns, I think you could argue that if you make guns available to everyone who meets such minimal critieria, then only paranoids and depressives will have guns.

That's not my position -- I have plenty of friends with guns -- but the structure of the usual argument can work both ways.

Don´t cars kill over 50,000 a year or something?

LMAO... look at my previous posts, I said something similar.... inanimate objects (cars, guns, hammers, etc) are NOT capable of arbitrarily killing people.... I see where you're going aurelius, and if you're going where I think you're going, then you're absolutely right..... lol

OH come on. THat business about guns not killing people/people killing people is great rhetoric, but what does it really mean?

ATom bombs don't kill people, people kill people (so why have disarmament treaties)? DDT doesn't kill people....people who spray DDT kill people (so why outlaw DDT)? Hmm. I like that T-shirt: "GUns don't kill people. Pro-lifers with guns kill people."

Guns do kill people, obviously. Any tool requires a human choice. That logic would legitimate the reversal of centuries of choices to protect human life.

By the way again dipshit...... If you're concerned with the "intentional violent crimes" commited by people with guns, think about this.... Have all of Clinton's bullshit gun control laws stopped gun related crimes??? NO!!!! do you know why???? Because all gun control does is stand in the way of law-abiding citizens buying firearms. People using firearms to commit crimes don't go into bob's gun shop and wait the 15 days to buy one, they buy them off the street. and all the gun control in the world is NOT going to stop the criminal element from having weapons. The best we can do as Americans to protect ourselves and our families is for us to be armed also.

One more thing Ryan.... Let someone in your family be the victim of a violent crime, and we'll see how you feel about your rights to protect yourself.....

Flash you hit that right on the Button!

True enough, BUT ddt has no real benefit, and as far as atom bombs go, treaties are designed to stop a maniac from just pushing the button and killing millions of people for nothing... We're talking about completely different levels of destruction now...
