I disagree, but I grew up around horses. Have you ever ridden? Riding a horse, especially the way they do (standing in the stirrups) is damned hard work, especially when you're about 105 soaking wet (in some races the jockey AND gear cannot weigh more than 115 lbs., for the Derby they get a grand total of 126). So you got a person who weighs about as much as an elementary school student, controlling something that weighs as much as a small car moving at about 40 mph in close formation with other small cars that are all capable of freaking out at the drop of a hat (thorobreds are the nut job of the horse world).i realize that, but nascar is the most vile of them and the least sporting, so its easier to pick on. the majority of their tracks are oval, while at least f1 tracks require mental activity.
i dont consider horse racing a sport, at least not for the jockeys and if you're jockeying a machine, well thats in the same vein i guess.
Both the jockeys and the horses are athletes, same goes for greyhounds.
Riding or driving a horse under racing conditions is totally incomparable to driving a car. Horses are alive, unpredictable, and rely on their riders/drivers to maintain focus. Even something as simple as starting the horse off running on the wrong leg can make or break a race.
