Tell me something they call a sport that you feel is not a sport.

any activity where the winner is determined by "judges" isn't a true sport imho...to be a "sport", the outcome should (generally) be determined on the field of play...my $.02 :whatever:

I agree to a point.
It's hard to calculate the best, or winner, when the criteria becomes more and more abstract.

However, boxing... is judged on ring generalship as in taking the fight to the other boxer, and effective punching is not as objective as one would think. The crowd/city/popular fighter also can affect judging outcomes.

That said, Figure, fitness comps, bodybuilding is a sport, the athletes are training for an outcome, and it is their discipline, and intellect as in what supps/gear/diet that are put on the line.
These competitors/athletes are training for a competitive outcome. However, it's more of an exhibition sport, and not quite the same thing. I still call these people athletes, due to the training involved.

Anything demanding physical skill, training and talent that has the capacity to be judged as being performed well or not (i.e., ballroom dancing, synchronized swimming, gymnastics, figure skating, bodybuilding, etc.) is still a competative sport. Ain't no way 99% of people, whether athletically inclined or not, could do the things that gymnasts or figure skaters, male or female, do.

Oh, I kind of agree with the "can you do it well when drunk" rule of thumb as to whether something is a sport or not, except for hunting. All hunting using a tree stand, and most hunting with rifles, is not a sport. I consider it herd control.

And games of chance are not sports, that's just called gambling.

that's why i said "generally".

I like that phrase. It can be used in many contexts. I guess the media machine of marketing is not a sport then.
Damn, I bet Disney, Vivendi, Viacom, Rupert Murdoch News Corp Intl, and Bertelsmann, would disagree.

J/K. Good word/phrase though.

ooops. My bad. Yeah, and you do have a solid point. One that I've been trying to discern to help T getting her NPC/IFBB pro card.

The judging criteria and what they look for is not consistent from region to region. The ratio of balance vs size, and aesthetic appeal, and the definition of 'stage presence' are hard to quantify objectively. You also have politics come into play.

That's why exhibition sports and the question of integrity and authenticity are more on the line.

Sweet baby jesus. "NASCAR" is the name of a particular auto sport federation. It is not an activity. That's like replying "IFBB" when you mean to indicate professional bodybuilding.

i realize that, but nascar is the most vile of them and the least sporting, so its easier to pick on. the majority of their tracks are oval, while at least f1 tracks require mental activity.

i dont consider horse racing a sport, at least not for the jockeys and if you're jockeying a machine, well thats in the same vein i guess.
