Soy Protein Isolate

Whey isolates you can get from True Protein or Gemma which is a vegan friendly protein derived from the pea plant (LG Sciences sells)...and then their are egg whites. All are options. I too am lactose intolerant.

No, it's not that I'm tired frequently. It just seems harder to workout as long and as many days as I have in the past. I'll find that I workout & do well for a few months & then I slack off & feel like I don't have the enthusiasm/strength to even get in 15 mins. I'm hoping that more protein & vitamins will give me a boost. I don't know how many calories I get right now. I'm just starting to try to figure out how to count the proteins because I've read that it's important when women get older to get enough protein before menopause. 125# sure doesn't look the way it used to on me so I'm still figuring out how to count my calories w/various online programs etc. I'm not what you'd consider a clean eater, but I really don't each much junk or fried foods. Most of the protein I get is from boca burgers (or other such products), tofu, hummis. I hardly eat dairy at all so no protein from that.

Some people I know say that vegetarians have a harder time losing weight (if they don't have a lot to lose) because they don't have enough animal protein. I don't know if that's true, but I know for myself, it takes me like two months to lose 5 #s. and the minute I stray, those #s are back in less than a week!

Sorry for the long post and I appreciate all the info & advice I've found here.

Eating too much of anything can make you gain weight. Being a vegan - FRUIT, is a biggie (all sugar). OR - NOT eating ENOUGH - can cause you NOT to lose fat.

Here are a few soy products for you:
SOY <--- Displaying Results Matching soy at DPS Nutrition - The Nation's leader in Discount Nutrition
Do you have a gym membership or do you workout at home?

I wouldn't touch anything Soy. Its horrible for you.
My ex works in a lab and she once told me all the horrible side effects. She said she would not touch the stuff if her life depended on it.
I wish I had the list.

The values of soy puts it very bottom shelf nor does it work all that well for the beloved estrogen support. Is there som nutritional value? Sure. But its proven to be junk in the long run especially as other proteins have come to the market.

Oh no! I've been eating tons of it for years as have been lactose intollerant therefore totally dairy free for around 10 years now, I have soy milk, protein powder and yoghurts!! The problem lies with so much conflicting info on soy, on the one hand it is supposed to be great for lowering cholesterol (as marketed in the UK anyway) and on the other it could cause cancer. We do have lactose free half fat milk over here but after 10 years of not touching the stuff I now find it vulgar and then of course there is the 'word' out there that dairy is bad for the body as well...........

What are your thoughts on dairy as I am aware they whey protein powder is a by-product of cheese production??

+1
As you know, I agree with you on this.

I also wouldn't touch it to save my life. I learned how bad it was in nutrition school and I was horrified at how it's processed and so on. I'm lactose intolerant and had switched to soy as an alternative. I won't bore anyone with details and the side effects I had, and didn't know what it was.

And yes, dairy is just as bad. Try almond milk it taste good and it's healthier. You can make it yourself. Very easy!

Thanks for the info although I am a bit worried about the long term effects I may have caused from 10 years of soy 'abuse' !! I've ordered myself some impact whey isolate as per phate1 (I would never have known otherwise) and I'll give almond milk a try. I used to drink rice milk but then realised the GI of it so I stopped :) Problem is I find oats made with water so boring, even though I lace it in cinnamon so would like something to make it just a wee bit more creamy. How about Oat Milk? I have checked it out on a couple of websites and they state it's GI 30, so low.

Don't worry about the effect soy milk has cause you. It's just best to avoid it from here on end. Oat milk is also very good. Just count the carbs, which is high.

If you're getting almond milk, get the unsweetened one, or as I said, make it yourself.

Yeah I was just thinking about the carbs, maybe it will be a little oat overload! I will go with the Almond route I think. Anyway, thanks for your help and advice, I won't drag this post thread on any further - lesson learnt! ;)
