What's the heaviest pair of dumbells at your gym?

Our gym was recently fully redone. New Everything. Guy must have spent a futune. Dumbells? Only go up to 100lbs!? What a joke.

And then the day came when Beezers outgrew the 120's for most everything. Being that Beezers is cool in everybody's book he talked the gym owner into getting some heaftier poundages for the larger mamals that roam the gym. We now have up to 200's. They of course need to be dusted daily, but there are a few determined souls who make good use of the "manly" weights. Many throw them around in some bizzare movement more resembling an ancient sacrifice dance, but there are the proud few who handle the big weight with care and to the owner the investment was well worth it.

205lbs at my gym. But they aren't plate DB's they are solid.

Those are nice....ours only go to 150's. Unsuitable for rows and shrugs for me.

Come to think of it....even if no one uses the 200s, there is a certain reputation that comes along with them. Any gym with 200 pound dumbells is hardcore in my book. Even if they do nothing but collect dust.

They will sit there in the corner and high school kids will gaze at them, waiting for the day that they can use them. It is a goal for everyone.

BUT I guess it could be a lawsuit waiting to happen...

I disagree. My theory is that the people who can't lift the 200lbs won't even attempt to cause they most likely won't be able to pick them off of the floor. I think the 200's will only ever be used by true bb's/powerlifters who KNOW correct technique.

I think there's a better chance of someone getting hurt with 100lbers or throwin 315 on the bench when he can really MAYBE get up 225 1x on his own. You see, in respect to dumbbells, the most common way someone would hurt themselves is from getting the weight off of the chest and then failing at the wrists (ie putting an "Ivanko" stamp on the forehead). This would be much more common with someone trying to get up 100's who can really only get 70's maybe, rather than the person who can actually get up 200's. Cause if you can get up 200's I'm sure you got the wrist strength to finish up the rep and have a solid spotter behind you.

100 at my school gym but then again im not allowed to wear a tank either...bb rows in an option

So true mv...I know for me I can press more than I can get into position but won't do more than I can get up safely. It's not worth tearing up a wrist or elbow just to show off......

also if you go heavy on BB and then use DBs for form and to really burn out your muscles you should not be able to go as heavy.
