My two cents:
As previously mentioned Japan has the higher amount of gastric cancer in the world, the second is actually Costa Rica, were I live.... my father passed away in 2005 due to this specific cancer, there were no relatives in our family with cancer, I can say he are like a fucking mad man, he ate anything and everything when he wanted, I´m pretty sure had he been bit more normal as per eating habits he wouldn´t have gotten cancer, in 2008 my uncle (dad´s brother) was diagnosed with prostate cancer so there´s the 2nd member in the family with cancer allthough different, after radiation he pulled through and is doing better, my father never smoked and my uncle smoked like crazy, there is nothing weird in the way people eat food here BUT studies hhave noted that 80% of the gastric cancer patients of CR come from a place called Cartago and Arenal and guess what? they live at the foot of a volcano, so do the japanese villaers that have the highest rates, so now they are conducting studies to test if volcanic water, air, soil, etc hsa any role in it.... my point is a lot of things cause it, some we know, some we dont, lot of people dies of cancer in the old days, they just didnt know what it was, until now, that adding, polution, smoking, processed foods (smoked meat, ham, chicken, etc has been linked to cancer now and isn´t that super tasty :s) is why IMO we now have more and more cases...
