Thanks for keeping it thoughtful, Z. I hashed out all the arguments about censorship on Usenet, ten or twelve years ago. Yes, the cure for hate speech is tolerance, the cure for hate speech is for good people to speak up... but the worst form of censorship is the one that lets the hate speech flood the channel until there is no room for good people to post.

HT, this stuff does not happen in a vacuum and I don't just grab one post and say "BAM! Ban that guy!" I'm on here reading at all hours day and night. I've been wondering for weeks, maybe months, why the heck UC felt the need to drop a two-line downer into other people's threads like a turd in the pool, again and again. This was a tipping point incident, long time coming.

Have you read the Tipping Point and Blink? both interesting books.

I think ulcaster did and said what he did for attention, and there are many of us attention whores here.. if what he was doing was taking away from the experience for others, it needs to be addressed, but he's not ALL bad, just went on a bad streak (not that it hasn't happened before).

oh, jeez, i couldn't even tell you. i'll have to dig up one of the tubes. the cubans were damn good, though. the bartender saw me puffin' one and brought me a shot of cognac to dip it in. i didn't think people really did that.
