Tell me something they call a sport that you feel is not a sport.

I'm not a NASCAR fan, but it's definitely a sport.

Here's the ultimate test: If you can do it while drinking a beer and smoking a cigar, it's not a sport. This eliminates:

- Golf
- Darts
- Bowling
- Many forms of hunting (but certainly not all)
- Croquet
- Pool
- Most forms of fishing (but not all)

ummm, people drive fast while drinking and smoking all the time. I can step into a NASCAR tomorrow doublefisting budweiser with a joint hanging out of my mouth and do 180mph. I will promptly pull a Dale Sr. but that's beside the point, I "CAN" do it. You can't proficiently play golf either while drinking....I dunno if you play, ever tried? It makes the round go by faster but you pretty much are wasting your time if you haven't ditched the scorecard. Racing is an amazing talent, very few people can drive cars at those limits for that amount of time......but it's not a "sport". Golf was a skill game until Tiger.

If you tried to smoke a cigar and drink during a NASCAR race (a legitimate sport), you'd die.

If you tried to smoke a cigar and drink during a golf match (a skilled activity), you'd fit right in.

Anyone who thinks golf is a sport should probably believe darts, pool, pinball, quarters and beer pong are sports too.

golf was a game until Tiger came along. Now it's a sport. THe way guys swing now you have to be an athlete to do it for 4 days and be on the leaderboard on sunday. Before him it was a skill game.

Yeah, this guy just wreaks of fine-tuned athlete to me.

I'd say Nascar is a sport, and definitely Rally racing, is. Rally, especially, takes endurance, physicality, keen reflexes...all the things I'd associate with an athletic performance.

i remember hearing a sports announcer saying if there isnt a ball involved, it isnt a sport... wtf!!!!
i was a former runner. very very close to breaking the american record in the indoor mile. i played semi pro ice hockey. and now i race bikes at the pro cat 1-2 level.
all hard sports. only a puck in the 3 sports i played..all 3 are super hard to get to a high level..
when you do a set of squats, and you're hurting on reps 8-9-10, thats how your legs feel for 2-3 hours in a hard bike race. . very very hard sport.plus your lungs are coming thru your chest..
years ago they had the superstarts compitition. 10 events. you picked 8. you competed against world class athletes. weightlifting, swimming, obsticle course, basketball shots, running, pullups, burpees, throwing., bike race, tons of events..
who won these?
bob segren, pole vaulter
renaldo nehemiah, 110 high hurdler
wayne grimdiage, water skier
jody schecter, race car driver.
where's the ball in these sports????
so there are a ton of non ball playing, out of the ordinary athletes smoking the so called bigger sports athletes

In 1981, Scheckter won the World Superstars competition in Key Biscayne, Florida. He defeated athletes such as Russ Francis, Renaldo Nehemiah, Peter Mueller, Rick Barry, Gaetan Boucher and Andy Ripley.
in my opinion, any compitition, as long as you are competing against another person its a sport.

ok at least someone acknowledges that there are in fact other auto sport series apart from American touring (stock) car racing. NASCAR is one of like 16 billion different types of autoracing in the world.

Formula One is by far the biggest auto sport series in the world. Conservatively it has like 5 times as many TV audience viewers as NASCAR. I attended an F1 race yesterday in Germany, and it sure as hell qualifies as a sport. The amount of skill and physical involvement in driving a 1200lb car with 780hp is almost inconceivable.
