Get the best RUNNING shoes you can find, the horse stuff is DMSO and it works but you won't want to be using it forever. The stretching/flexibility will help relieve the symptoms most people call shin splints. And balancing the muscle development.
If you are indeed suffering micro fractures you need to get more help than a msg board.
fuck sakes i just started cardio and i can run but after i can barely fuckin walk the next day. I know a good pair of shoes will help but is there anything to sooth the pain? i guess ice after and thats it. anyone else have these fuckin things.
In the Military I used to get them real bad, and all those fuckin military Drs' would do is give me a prescription for 800mg Ibuprofren pills and tell me to not be on my feet at all for 4-5 days.
Huh. My doc told me that real shin splints are actually microfractures of the bone(s) and a much more serious problem than the more common muscular disbalance between the tibialis anterior and the gastrocnemis, which is a separate problem. It's been a while, though, and I might not be remembering things perfectly.
It's possible, although I never was told that by any physcian (microfractures), but this was 20 years ago! I am sure the diagnosis may be more complete now.
The real pain is plantar fasciitis. I have had that on and off for decades.
Two years ago I was doing mad areobics on my stair climber at home. Many times I didn't even wear any sneakers. Just woke up and did 45 minutes of super kick ass aerobics.
