cant really put a finger on what i specifically did, but woke up about 3 weeks ago and had terrible shooting pain down my left arm, (back of the tricep and down into my forearm0 the pain has started to subside, but my strength is probably about 50% of my right. i have been trying to work thru it using the hammer strenght machines. anyone have this happen , or have any ideas?

Need to go to doc and get it checked out, Ive only heard of pain shooting down left arm like that for heart attack/stroke. Its possible you might have had a mild attack/stroke and didnt even know about it. Not trying to freak you out, just trying to let you see how serious it could potentially be.

On the other hand, it could be something harmless, go to doc.

Good luck.

Get to a Doctor/Emergency Room prontissimo. Other poster is correct. the classic heart attack symtom is pain shooting down arm radiating from shoulder i believe, but your description is close enuf.

better safe than sorry.

Its often refered to as referral pain, usually arrising from a pinched nerve or something closer to the spine, perhaps mid/upper back or neck.

If you dont remember a specific injury perhaps you just slept funny, maybe a chiro can straighten you out.

i 'm 99.9% it is a pinched nerve, it does arise in the upper back, im just looking to see if anyone else hd the same experience, and how long it took to get full strength back. pulling excerises are fine, the pushing excerises are horrible, left side and keep up!

I have had kinks a time or two where mid back problems referred pain up my neck and I couldnt turn my neck and got pounding headaches. It used to happen every 6 months or so and I would go in and get aligned, after a few times I realed that for this to keep happening there must be an instability somewhere in my back where thepain originates. I have had it treated with prolotherapy a couple times (and I need a couple more) but it hasnt happened since.

I just got out of the hospital for 99 % blockage and my pain came from chest to middle of arm not in the back tricep area down to my hand left and right but more on left , it is prob coming from the way you slept and prob from the neck pinching off a nerve a HOT shower helps some.

thanks zyglamail, so go to the chiro, and its somewhat of a waiting game it seems.
muscle tension etc can cause knots and apply pressure to nerves etc an alignment can birng almost immediate partial releife (or has in my cases) and from there improves over the next few days. I think Chiro's have their place, but if a problem persists and you need to be continually adjusted then there is a bigger underlying problem that should be addressed.

As far as whether to think the worst and responding accordingly, one has to take a hard look at their family history. What's your Mom and Dad's history? Did they have heart disease or a heart attack and at what age? What's your age? Are you in a high risk group? Smoking, obesity, etc.?

If you're relatively young, have no family history and you are not in a high risk group chances are VERY good that it is only musculoskelatel in nature.
