doing my undergrad at the university of maryland conditioned me to be apprehensive about walking alone at night, since there was seriously like a mugging every week. every time a car drove by slowly i always thought 'oh shit, this is gonna be the guy that jacks me.' the school i go to now is like 5 million times safer, but something happened tonight that made me revert back to my old ways..
i was walking down one of the main streets, and nobody was around except for two cars that passed me from behind at the same time. as they approached a flashing red stoplight, the car in the left lane slowed down and came to a loud squeaky stop.. waited a few moments longer than necessary, and made a u-turn. i noticed the car's rims.. they were shitty-ass 14 inch fake-chrome rims; i thought to myself, wow, y'all are the only ghetto people i've ever seen in davis. i kept waking, but i had this bad feeling about the situation. I glanced back, and just as I did so i see the car making ANOTHER u-turn a couple blocks down. I immediately bolted and sprinted the entire way home. looking back i doubt they had any bad intention - maybe wanted directions or something, or it was some sort of coincidence. At the time though i never even had a choice; every fiber of my being just screamed 'RUN!' and I was off to the races
