i was thinking of doing somewhat of a type of low cal diet. i got my bodyfat low now. but i was thinking about having my only carb source as skim milk????? a gallon has 16 servings 8 grams of protien per serving and 11 carbohydrates. so thats about 166 carbs and 128 grams of protien. and the rest of my food will be 1 can of tuna with flax 30 grams of protein. and 40 grams of protien from a piece of catfish. and one large serving of cabbage(carbs negligible)....so my totals are 200 protien 160 carbs from just milk and about 25 fats from flax and catfish. is milk not as good as refilling muscle glycogen like starches are??? is lactose as good as eating oatmeal or something like that. is milk not a good ideal carb choice does it only fill liver glycogen. is carb just a carb unless its fruictose?????/cause i know fruictose only goes to liver glycogen. im trying to make a nice maintance diet thats conveinent through the summer just three basic foods pretty much milk and fish and of course ill be taking multivitamins. is there any extra benifit from milk that other carb choices dont have?

Milk is low GI. Thats all I can say right now. I'd put some oatmeal in there, if you're thinking cheap. It runs about 10 cents a cup dry. It's probably a better carb than lactose since lactose is a sugar... I'm tired, I'll try to put some backing to this later. ---KD

your 6 foot 6 and thats all you plan on eating ?? dairy carbs are inferior carbs, and youd be better off getting them somewhere else, but one of my friends makes it a habit to drink a gallon a day, and he is a big motherfucka. That much dairy could smooth you over though, watch out.

If your lactose intolerant your gonna get the stomach aches and be using the toilet often :)
I get bloated too

One reason why i drink soy milk now

i still dont get it why u say its an inferior carb? how is oatmeal any better than milk???? i work construction i can be fixen oatmeal. and also oatmeal has 3 grams of fat per cup. im going on a low fat diet just to maintain my ripdness for the summer. does lactose not fill up muscle glycogen or something is that why u say its inferior, i defintily need to know. skim milk is conveinient for me and cheap i have a cooler at work. and i can store alot of milk in my cooler at work i do construction type work. the way i see it or just my theory is....the casien protien in milk is perfect because it is slowly digested through the day and the milk is a complex carb even though its a sugar(lactose). somebody direct me towards the truth. why would lactose smooth you over than any other carb also all carbs hold water carbohydrates hold 4 molecules of water per gram. so any carb you take in is going to smooth you over

I am not sure what lactose breaks down to, but I think it may be glucose and fructose. I don't think there is anything wrong with lactose, but I prefer to stick with carb sources that I know to work like low GI starchy carbs.

That said, the protein in milk has a good profile, is slow digesting and will support a high degree of nitrogen retention.

Maybe you could try utilizing milk as your only carb source and see if it fills your muscle glycogen. If not, try compromising and eating sweet potatoes or oats for half your carbs and milk for the other half.

You could try making some kind of oatmeal bars or unsweetened very-low-fat bran muffins, too. That would be portable.

ill experiment with the milk. i let you know how it goes. i sent you an email to plorn

If you are not lactose intolerant then your plan looks good. Lactose gets broken down to glucose and galactose. Glucose you know all about I'm sure. Galactose is a bit different because it doesn't elicit a primary insulin response, and preferentially refills liver glycogen first. So in many respects it is like fructose. The combo of glucose and galactose may be very synergistic for bodybuilders since you get the benefits of glucose with the low GI benefits of galactose. There's plenty of big mofo BBs that drink a lot of milk. My only advice would be to increase your fiber intake somehow. Even a very large serving of cabbage is not really enough fiber for long term intestinal health. This is the main reason I would try to eat my carbs from whole grains and fresh veggie sources instead of milk.

What would you take post WO? Wouldn't something other than milk be good?

I actually like your diet..It looks like a kick ass plan and if it works for you I might just have to try it. I LOVE MILK and would love to drink a gallon a day. I used to drink just a quart with my post WO drink, but that was to make it taste better. This was also before I knew anything about eating right. Talking about 2 meals a day and my post WO drink.
