Do whatever workout allows you to see progress on each and every workout. You should be able to increase the weight or # of reps per set of each exercise. If you can't, something needs to be changed.

Training volume is one of the most important things to measure in a program. It determines the intensity that you will be working at; since there is an inverse relationship between volume & intensity etc. and also the workout frequency/training split. Further, there are other elements to consider, like metabolic cost of the exercise and time under tension.

I would say one of the best methods (if not the best) is to periodize the training frequency. Basically done by manipulating volume and intensity weekly. Which leads to greater supercompensation than a non-periodized (linear) program.
