aloha everyone, just needed some tips on cardio. im where i want to be with leaness, buit im sick of my cardio routine. Every morning for 70 mins, come one now!!! if anyone has something new to spice up my cardio life, give it up please. IM asking women because its harder for women to get lean, so i figure if a woman is lean they have to work just as hard or harder;) well thanks

Cardio on an empty stomach in the morning is one of the best ways to shed the fat. Try doing different things with your routine. Try walking on the treadmill for 5-10 minutes at a good steady pace and then beging to incline it up, moving it up every 2-3 minutes. Walk on an incline for a while then bring it back down and jog at a fast pace for a few minutes, and then begin to walk again, just constantly change how you are walking throughout your 70 minute routine. You can also try some HIIT training as well. You can go anywhere from 10-20 minutes and just go from walking to sprinting....for example walk for 1-2 minutes and then sprint as fast as you can go for 1-2 minutes, and just keep repeating until the end of your routine. You can do it on the stepper or whatever machine, just do things in intervals and really push yoursel, it is a great workout, seems like it would be easy, but it will kick your ass!!!!! Also maybe try doing something other than going to your gym for cardio, take walks along a track outside, or go biking, rollerblading, or swimming. Just mix it up that is what works the best:D

New@gettinbig = smart lady! Always enjoy reading and getting tips from you.

If I lived in a warm climate all year..I'D SWIM ALL THE TIME FOR MY CARDIO!

I like doing interval sprints the best - warm up 5-10 minutes, jog a minute, sprint a minute, for about 20 minutes, then cool down 5 minutes.

For variety, I'll do interval hills - jogging at the same pace, but varying the incline.

see well last time i tried swimming i got a lttle less lean, maybe because i wasnt doing ti enough ro something, but i got a body i did not want. This was in my off season for track. Anyway i finished my last year of sprinting, so im all bunr tout from running, thanks for the awsome tips everyone, much appreciated. have an awsome day and aloha.:)

I heard swimming makes you hold a little extra body fat....is this true? I heard the cool water temperature tends to motivate your body to hold fat to keep warm....

???????

anybody confirm or disconfirm this?

thanks!

i've heard the same thing... i mean if you really want proof, look at swimmers, they are usually lean, but never ripped.... it is good exercise occasionally, but if you spend too long in a pool you will hold on to a thin layer of fat for two reasons...

1) temperature regulation
2) bouyancy, a little body fat helps ya float... (too much will not make you float better though :) )

so, swimming, as a form of cardio is good to add variety to a program, but, probably shouldn't be your main form of exercise... unless you want to be an olympic swimmer of course.

I have never heard this-learn something new everyday!

Thank You ladies!

Yes, I've read this from several sources. It's true for the reasons Phemomena stated. As hard as swimming "feels", it's really unfair that it should make you hold onto bodyfat! Needless to say, I like playing in the water, but I never swim for my cardio.

Watching the Olympics, I don't think I've ever seen a ripped female swimmer.

But they don't need to be ripped to win. They eat a ton, both sprinters and distance racers.
Just like power lifters aren't ripped--they have no compelling reason to be. I think that if you want a non-stress cardio exercise, swimming's great. As long as you watch your diet, why not? if it keeps you motivated.

As for the cold water and fat issue, I think that it might be true if you're a long distance swimmer, racing the British Cnannel or around Manhattan, but for most back-yard pool pros, the water temp's not an issue. My pool is about 82 right now.

There are are plenty of ripped surfers and the pros, at least, are strong swimmers.
