EFAs, Barlean's flax, and ANPB

okay. I take the barleans because I *have* to, I eat teh ANPB because it has EFA's and it is SO FUGGIN' GOOD.

how much of each do I need at a minimum every day, to ensure I get enough EFA's?

I'm about 210-215 lbs right now, probably 17 or 18% bf, 34 yrs old, lifting and doing tons of cardio.

thx.

By your statement of "doing tons of cardio", I assume you are trying to burn fat. I would suggest dropping some pb and adding more omega 3's.

Fat burn should occurr with lower energy intake. Some folks(we all know them from these boards ;)) have difficulty doing so....part of the reason for this may be that the membranes which surround each of the body's cells are not functioning in the way they should because their composition is out of balance.

For example, evidence recently published showed that weight loss was greater on a calorie-restricted diet when a small amount of fish oil was added to the diet, compared to the same diet when olive oil was added instead of the fish oil.

so the ANPB doesn't contain the O-3's, that is the flax?

thought the ANPB contained it too?

and "tons of cardio" means that I do a good 30-45 minutes each morning

either HIIT or moderate-intensity cardio, both on the stepmill

wow.

so ANPB supplies....what, exactly?

About half their fat content is monounsaturated fats, about a third are polyunsaturated, and the remaining about fifth are saturated. Just a trace of n3's.

Not the best for cutting. Studies showOmega-3 fatty acids in fish oil are polyunsaturated fats that can switch on enzymes specifically involved in oxidizing or burning of fat, but they need a driver (in our case, exercise) to increase the metabolic rate in order to lower body fat

Our diets normally lack n3's also, so this is another reason of many to add n3's to the diet.

Could go on to the benefits of n3's more in depth, but hope you get the picture.

Besides, they are loaded as mentioned with omega-6 fats, we normally get plenty of them anyway...this can further distort the omega 3:6 ratio that is normally bad anyway.

You do not have to give up your pb :) ....I am a pb fanatic myself, so I know how it feels. I take in much more when bulking. Normally when bulking, with the variety of foods you are intaking, it won't make near the difference. But also don't neglect your n3's. Way too many health benefits to ignore them.

Remember, pb is very calorie dense, so it makes more sense to cut back when dieting and add more n3's. As you cut back calories, every calorie is at a premium.

By the way, if you like pb, have you tried almond butter? Killer stuff!

never seen almond butter.
never heard of it

any different than ANPB nutritionally? I can't picture it being any tastier. :D

Trader Joe's sell it. I usually get that an ANPB from Trader's, but almond butter is more expensive.

Almond butter doesn't taste as good IMO. I like the taste, but no butter matches peanut butter IMO and almond butter's better for you.
