Man, I just read the responses on LivinLarge's post about his girlfriend doing coke. I think that situation is fucked, but because of the breach of trust caused by her lying about an issue that was very important to him, among other things, and not specifically because she's done coke.

OK, cocaine is addictive and I don't think it's a good thing to dabble in on a regular basis. As with many substances, you have to keep yourself in check and if you'd rather not even mess around with it in the first place then more power to you- there's certainly nothing wrong with that. But come on folks- the stuff is not this surefire descent into addiction. Doing a line or two or ten at a party does not mean you're going to be stealing VCRs a few months down the line. Sitting around with a couple of friends and a couple of grams isn't going to land you in rehab. Tooting a few lines with your girlfriend before you fuck each other's brains out isn't going to mean the end of the world either. The comedown can be a bitch, but like everything in this world, for every yin, there's a yang. It passes soon enough. The vast majority of people who experiment with or occasionally use cocaine never become addicted and never have a real problem with it.

For some people it may. I know dudes that could go on a binge for several days and walk away from it forever with no problem. Me, I took one little bump and it was like I found the meaning of life. I was an addict and addiction to coke is very much a decent into hell.

Call me weak - I will agree that I was very, very weak. We are all very weak in some regard. If the situation is right, coke may be that weakness for you.

I hear ya man. Its not good for some people....but if you use it every now and then for fun its cool. Cas for some people coc can get you to steal and all the stuff you explained. Most people I hang out with that do it are in school and doing fine in life. They just party abit on the weekends.

I think it's the people who are obsessive compulsive that it really affects. Once some people do something one time...it's all or nothing with them. I guess some would say that it is just like any other drug...but heck....I don't know. Cocaine is a hard drug, yes...but every drug can be addicting....or the feeling that you get when you're on it is addicting.

There are people who can do it occasionally and never feel the need to constantly have it.

I've never done the stuff so honestly I have no clue how easy it is to get addicted to. I've seen coke addicts and it's a sad site. It's definitely something that I would never want to experience.

never will touch the stuff. for me, there's an imaginary line between hardcore and rec drugs, and coke is just past that line. not quite heroin, but still far, far away from weed. i ran into a buddy of mine this weekend at a bar and dude was coked up like no tomorrow. he wouldn't stop running his mouth and his eyes were like saucers. it was just like overload. i can't stand to be around people like that and would never want to be wired to that point.

Lots of factors can determine addiction. Obsessive compulsive are a group who may be very prone to an addiction. On the other hand, the obsessive compulsive person may have an addictive personality that may be oriented in such a way that they are very unlikely to travel the specific road to coke addiction.

Addiction can manifest in many ways. Doubtless, many of us here are addicted to physical training. Some people are addicted to sex, some are addicted to certain people. HappyScrappy told me he was addicted to puppies, though he wouldn't tell what he meant by this.

Also, regarding a drug such as coke, physiological factors of addiction must be taken int account. I said I know guys who've binged on coke and walked away right? Well, one buddy who reached some of the deeper and more pathetic depths of coke addiction with me started out as an occasional user. For several years he'd use ones every couple of months at a party. No big deal and no addiction for him. Well, one day he chose to partake in one of those several day binges which sparked off his full blown addiction.

No, addiction is not surefire, but non-addiction is not guaranteed.

The thing with coke is you never know if you can handle it or if you can't unless you try it and by the time you figure out that you are one of the ones who can't it is too late.
There are people who can smoke only when the drink and only do coke when they party - I REALLY HATE THOSE PEOPLE.
It has been over 15 years since I did my last line and I still LOVE it.

There is such a thing as responsible recreational drug use. Although I don't think anyone could use H that way. Cut loose and have fun but know your limits and know when to stop.
