Apparently Freedom of Speech Does Not Exist In Canada

2Thick said:
Free speech does not cover speech that encourages the hate and harm of people. That is simple logic.

and who decides when speech 'crosses the line'? some fucking judge? no thanks.

how long before speaking out against your government officials is to be declared 'hate speech.'

i guess i can appreciate the ability of our citizens to express themselves, whether or not i agree with it.

Are you really that blinded by your ingornace?

When you say, "I hate these kikes/niggers/spics/chinks and we should kill/harrass/beat-up all of them," then that is hate speecha nd it is not covered by the Constitution or any other charter of rights.

if that is the case, why arent KKK members being hauled off to jail after their rallies? why isnt eminem doing time in a prison? why arent rappers facing judicial wrath?

freedom of speech.

yes, i value having the ability to express any opinion i want, regardless of whether it be racially, religiously, or philosophically motivated. i dont believe in some judge imprisoning people for 'thought crimes'.

KKK members do go to jail and so to white supremacists. Just because you do not see it does not mean it does not exist.

Speech is one thing, but threats are another. When you tell people to kill others, it is hate crime.

Only when it can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the speech in question encouraged or aided whoever committed the actual crime.

KKK members no not go to jail for what they say, they go to jail for their actions. there have been many rallies covered on tv and in print, and not once did they mention anyone getting arrested for using racial slurs.

if this was the case, many mainstream people would be going to prison. glaad would have lynched eminem a long time ago for his 'hate filled' speech and claims that his music 'incited violence' against homosexuals. not only did he not go to jail, he never even had charges filed against him for any of the words he said.

All this does is give the guy more publicity which will have the opposite effect of what was intended by the sentence. If anything this will encourage more of the same. A better approach would have been to simply ignore the guy as narrow-minded and ignorant.
