Hell I've been to many US cities, and other countries and Montreal isn't the safest.

you're missing the whole point. Guns are pretty to buy on the black market. A good S&W revolver 4" barrel (which is forbidden not even restricted) can be bought for 600$ easily in Montreal. Why not allow citizens to have their own ?

Punching the kid was wrong, but then again maybe the kids had done stuff like this numerous times before. The report says that the kids would be gone before the cops showed up, after receiving calls. Hell, I might have done the same thing, if some punk kids kept doing crap like that and nobody would help me out.

As far as what the kids did to the guy, they knew right from wrong, wether the age was 10 or 15. Beating somebody up is one thing, but nearly killing him is totally different.

I think each one of the kids that participated should be put in a room seperatly, and have an adult beat them to a pulp with a baseball bat. -the same treatment they selfishly dished out.

It happens all of the time. Groups of people watch crimes and do nothing. People in large groups do the most awful things. If alone or in a small group, they will not act the same way.
