Best training routine for better recovery?

what would be better for optimal recovery, training a muscle once a week with more volume or twice a week with less volume. I'm not talking about a muscle group. I'm talking about what harder for your body to recover from over all. Or does it even make a difference as long as total volume is the same.
 
tough question

i think a lot of people would rather hit the muscle group once a week hard vs. twice a week less volume because we simply have busy lives. in that aspect it makes more sense

i see no reason why if you did a 3 or 4 day split with each day focused on each muscle group with a good amount of volume you wouldn't have tons of success with 3-4X a week weight training. that is more plausible.. in high school i worked out 6X a week but in high school you don't have a family and 2 jobs, and a mortgage either
