Your thoughts...Can a muscle be shaped?

And, good sir..I would humbly tell you that there are NUMEROUS benefits to your analogy of a 45 yr old woman doing seated presses on a balance ball. A few being: core strength, improved pelvic and spinal posturing, as well as the stabilizer muscles we discussed..

I disagree. I think it's baloney. How does being unstable build core strength?

Not sure what you mean by "pelvic and spinal posturing."

And again...what exactly are the stabilizer muscles to which you refer? All muscles stabilize.

Train for strength, shape and size. That means heavy weight while solidly positioned. For posture and balance you can do yoga type stretches. Lifting weights while standing on one leg is not the answer IMO. One or the other.

Alright man, you are entitled to your opinion. I respect you, so I will bow out here and agree to disagree I suppose.

What I meant by pelvic and spinal posturing: Exercises that ACTIVATE core muscles, which absolutely DOES happen whilst implementing a ball, increase STABILIZATION of the spine, in a very complete, functional, and productive way. Not everyone wants to become very lean and have high LBM...some just need general maintenance, slightly increased LBM for elevated metabloism, and cmon man, what straight dude really wants to go to yoga class?

actually..now that I think about it....yoga class wouldnt be that bad, as long as you were the only guy, and all the women were 35 and younger....mmm.

All exercise is good. And if you find a yoga class with nothing but hot young women, let me know.

I agree with you, You can't "shape" your muscles. You can make them grow and they will grow into whatever shape genetics have decided. You can't change them without dna splicing (which I don't believe exists yet except in sci fi movies)

Not even. What is it about higher reps that make you lose bodyfat? Nothing...

How your muscles look depend on their size, the amount of bodyfat you have, and surrounding muscles (as in, small triceps might make large biceps look even larger).

I would say you are wrong, higher reps do make you lose more body fat do to the extra calories burned during those extra reps. Hence the reason they say to do high reps when cutting. All that you are doing is basically more cardio which burns calories, and thats what you need to do to cut.

Doing a heavier lift 1 time doesn't burn as many calories as doing lighter weight 25 times.

I think it depends

If you want to be big and cut then you would lift heavy and lose boydfat so you have a lot of muscle

if you want to look really toned, like the ,muscles of someone who doesnt lift heavy but looks like they have endurance, then lift lighter weights, do circuits, do the bal;l exxercises

However doing that doesnt build as much muscle, but some people dont want it. Idk why but its true, some people dont want the big look. So they dont train for size. They train according to what they are thinking is losing bodyfat, and really they are just burning more calories, not building as much muscle but they are losing bodyfat so they appear more cut. But I believe you can be cut with a good diet/training and stilll ift heavy.

Some people just dont want to turn into the hulk because they think they will if they deadlift, which they are half correct

Well, now we're getting onto something else. There is something to pumping the muscles. And depending what composition your muscles are , such as mostly type 1 or type 2 fibers, the type of exercises you do will dictate results. This is a discussion in itself. Actually, it's pretty much the secret (or answer, really) to the fastest gains.

Please elaborate :) check your PM's

well if your goal is fat loss ... ud do a higher rep range ... burn more calories, harder physique, almost cardio-like workout
