What is the best martial arts for self defense?

Ive never had any trouble and Im a big guy with plenty of kickboxing experience however I was wondering about another form..

If you have a opportunity to learn submission grappling that would be great.

You don't have to be blackbelt in BJJ to apply basic submissions, e.g, RNC's, armbars (sometimes), and heel hooks.

dude just got to mma classes with experienced instructors .. they offer them all over now

Ive already killed a man with a handgun as a Trooper and I will not own another one.
You seem like a genuine nice person (no homo).
I don't envy that burden you choose to bare.

I always 2nd (and 3rd) guess my actions when I've become violent. At the end of the day I sleep well, knowing I didn't start it, and try to learn from the experience...

I have been Kickboxing and boxing for years however I want to start taking another form of martial arts.... I was thinking Aikido or Judo..... What is your opinion? Also I have limited time for pratice. thanks
After I graduate in December from grad school, I was thinking about taking aikido... I had a friend who was extremely proficient in aikido and had developed an awareness that was nothing short of amazing... the principles it teaches are phenomenal, the philosophy behind it, as well as the story of the founder. Good stuff... all martial arts are, but my preference is definitely for aikido.

My senior year in H.S. me and a buddy took Judo lessons thinking it would help our wrestling.

The rules were ridiculous. You had to start holding each other’s Gi. The instructor was approx. 10 years older than us and outweighed us by 50 lbs.

It hurt like a MoFo when he threw us (before we learned to slap the mat), but then once we were on the ground we promptly kicked his ass.

Sounds like you had a pretty shitty Judo instructor.
