well to be fair, if you will need extra punching instruction or not is dependent on the San Shou guy you learn from
you might get a San Shou guy thats really into punch technique or he might let you slide because of the other options
Yea I was just going to use it to get my punches even better and dodging/blocking of punches even better. But I obviously wont need that is what it sounds like
Most systyems that actively compete in San Shou arent "Inferior" in any way to Western Boxing in the Hand department . Boxing really only HAS 5 hand attacks , most Chinese systems still taught today are more thourough than that . AND what you learn goes right along with your Posture , Fighting Stance , Kicks that you learn , Takedowns , Takedown Defenses , etc. . You dont have to "Switch Mindsets" from doing one thing to another . And any decent Coach will use what is Useable from Western Boxing already , and he will know FAR better than you what goes with AND Against the grain of the rest of your Training .
What I was attempting to say ois that certain Techniques/Tactics used in Boxing ignore the possibility of Lega attacks , and a Novice wont know wich those are and why .
Additionally , certain things that you would to just using your hands could and would put you in a poor position to use your Legs or to apply/defend against a takedown .
In short certain things that give you the edge in Boxing Matches are able to put you at a DISadvantage in a Freefight .
If the Boxer and the Kickboxer had equal hand skills and the kick boxer has the bonus of his kicks then he would probably win. but most boxers have better hands.
Im at a loss as to what is going to be the best thing I can take up to improve my street fighting to coincide with my vigorous weight training. Boxing or San shou or will both give me what I need. I don't think I will be going anywhere but the street with these skills anyways Unless I really get into it.
If youv'e been weight training alot and have developed large muscles you may want to take advantage of them, If the San Shou has a good amount of grappling in it then strengh can be a benefit.
