Tri's giving out too soon

as of lately my triceps have been failing before my chest does on almost all my chest exercises (DB Press, BB Press, incline, flat, decline, ect. except for flies and so out), is this impeding my growth? I find my triceps are actually fairly strong when i work them out, but it doesnt seem to keep par with my chest, my workout partner suggester pre-fatigueing my chest with fly's and what not, but i dont really see how this will solve my problem, i mean am i stuck with this or there a way to close the gap I dunno if stats would help. but max bench 290lbs, max close grip 205lbs, i dunno i can give more stats if someone thinks it would help them.. thanks..

Stupid question = How far apart is your tri workout from your chest workout? The only reason I ask is because you shouldn't be having this problem (your triceps are strong enough to take the heat).

Actually, powerlifters use mostly triceps/delts to push the weight up on a bench press, not the chest. It's actually normal for the tris to tire first.

Are you getting adequate chest stimulation? Do you get a good pump? Pre-exhausting the chest with flys will help a bit if you superset them with benches....it will momentarily make the chest fatigued so you are actually pushing more with your triceps but are using the last remaining muscle fibers in your chest as well.

Another thing to try is align your shoulder girdle before you bench. John Parillo talks much about this. Before you bench, slam your shoulders back on the pad of the bench and then down. This will make it so you are pushing DOMINANTLY with the pecs and not stress the tri/shoulder area as much as when you do a bench press.

YOu also might want to try sticking with dumbells instead of a flat bar........make sure you do your incline work first to bring out the illusion of a bigger chest.

Its not like it happens on my first exercise, more towards my 2nd or 3rd where its noticably by tris, my training partners notice it, they also feel it if im getting a forced rep out.

Maybe your triceps are more fast twitch and they happen to like heavier weight, lower reps whereas your chest likes a little lighter weight and higher reps, so your tricep's tire out before your pecs do do to the rep volume.

Could be?

If you want to focus the majority of stress on the chest try doing a limited ROM. By this I mean stopping at the point where you feel the stress move from the chest to say the triceps or front delts.

Your weights might go down a bit at first but it will come back within a matter of weeks.

Keep doing the close grip benches, dips, and lying tricep extensions and your tris will catch up to everything else eventually.

Do what I do. Cable crossovers, different degree's. Do that for 5 sets and then you can hopp on to bench or whatever. It works for me. But I only do it to build up my chest more and take the heat off my triceps. Why put the heat on your triceps when you dont have to.
