One friend of mine will sometimes wind up sleeping with a few guys in a week. I just assume they're lacking for something in their life and trying to fill that void with sex.

I don't think there's a good justification. I guess it's their lives and their decisions to make but I have to think at some point they'll wake up and realize that something has to change. All of the people I know like that, male and female, tend to suck at relationships too.
