Health insurance: fuckthatshit.jpg

I deal drugs and moonlight as a hitman so I can pay cash for my HIV medication.

Thank Obama for that
Nice try but my old company switched to a $3K deductible in 2009 and it had nothing to do with the black dude.

Fear not, the new deductible number will be closer to $10K.

It's coming for the majority of businesses.

I recently got a print out of the costs of our health coverage for both employer and employee..

it went from right around $10k a yr to a little over $15k a yr with way crappier coverage at the $15k a yr level
I HAD a $500 a yr deductible, now its $4500 a yr a deductible

i gotta be honest ...Im pretty happy the employer covers like 80% of the premium, just wish the deductible wasn't so insane.

According to BarryCare, your employer has to provide a 60% coverage plan (a.k.a. a "qualified" plan). But that just insures that on average, 40% of the total health care costs comes from the employee. How they choose to split that up into deductables, co-pays and % coverage is at the discretion of the employer for now.

So in your 80% example, your employer may be taxed on that incremental benefit (assuming your deductible is low) as it is considered additional or supplemental income above the standard. So they may need to raise that deductible just to get you to an overall 60% benefit.

ya I remember HR going over it all with everyone and it was a big to-do when it switched over two years ago.
Theyre currently trying to figure out how to get the employees back to the prior level of coverage without bankrupting everyone. They're only even doing that because they a multi billion dollar company and can afford it and actually seem to genuinely give a shit about their employees (and making sure they're productive)

hell I'm looking at the 26 yr old portion of things going, wow...I'm fucked but that on the same coin ..with my brother in law cutting off his finger in my driveway at 25 yrs old and not having insurance..I just went through the scramble of claiming it on my auto insurance (happened on one of our cars) then helping him fill out the paperwork for medicaid...
the finger incident was a little over 10k all total. I'm glad we were able to get insurance coverage in place for that bill. The kid can't find work with his lousy degree and is swimming in student loan debt. It's an interesting paradox I don't pretend to have a genuine idea for a solution.
