Thats it....Im gonna leave my company and set up my own shop.

Did you get your ass kicked in Muni's? 07 was a bad year for muni bond funds. I dont get into muni's too much unless we are looking for tax adavantaged, and then I use a state double tax free muni bond fund. It was bad news last year.

Not really, but I used more individual bonds than funds. The funds I used were all short duration so they havent done that bad (though they havent done great).

I just figure if you have someone in the 33% tax bracket and you can almost assure them a tax equivalent yield of say 6.5% with virtually no risk then why shoot for anything more if they dont need it?

75th wow that was quick. Good Luck even though I have been in the business and from what I can tell from communicating with you won't need it! As you know it is a relationship management business and don't risk your relationship with risking OPM!

Ya well like I said Ive been thinking about it for a while, and talking with the folks who are partnering up with me we all figured nows a good a time as any.

And Im all about relationships. Except with retards.

So did you walk out at 1pm old school, start meeting with clients before your old company could start dishing out your clients to thier worthless old brokers and rookies?

Hey I am no retard! Well I don't think I was?

Nah I havent left yet. Ill start talking to the clients that I know would come with me without any convincing (believe it or not some people like me). Then I gotta start with those that I would assume need some time to think it over. Thing is I work for a large and stable firm so some of these folks may feel uneasy leaving that given the current economic climate.

Once I convince who I want to convince we have to make sure I dont get sued by my company for our non compete agreement.

LOL nah not you bor. Im sure youve had some clients that, no matter how much you tried, just didnt get it.
