Dial tone is right on the exercise choice and the results they produce; but they must still be done correctly with good form to prevent chronic long term injuries. Remember most weight training injuries occur years after the initial onset. They are mostly due to long term overuse with bad form and incoorect ROM.
I am not saying anyone here specifically is using bad form, just what the result usually is - hence do no follow the form outlined by HSNHST.com
