Richard Wright, founding member of Pink Floyd died today

Waters was the writer for sure, but Gilmore's solos within the context of a Water's written melody is the shit, its why we are even talking about them. Gimore could solo in a way that other's just didn't even attempt.

that is true, he's quite the soloist but he was impotent without waters.
i have been listening to this band since 1974 as have a lot of my friends,
some for much longer. it is never a debate, roger was floyd.

gilmore is much more *media* friendly. tunes like mother and comfortably
numb appeal to the masses and he plays a mean guitar but roger waters is
a supra genius.

So agreed man..... I just read this, and kinda sad now. I was always into Animals album.... its just..... no words could describe it..... maybe ANGRY. I taught myself that album early on, and still play along.... it teaches patience, and precision.

Hey lestat, we agree on something :) just kidding man

RIP

I wasn't into the Floyd albums without Waters, that for sure.

BUT, I didn't get totally hook on Floyd until this one 4th of July when I heard Comfortable Numb... it was over for me

i think that is a testament to our age difference little brother.

you look late twenties and i'm 44.

i think time or breathe got my attention. dark side was HUGE on radio
circa '74. wish you were here came out about the same time as
physical graffiti. man we had some good music in those days!!!
my 7 and ten year olds love floyd, zeppelin, stones, who.....a timeless
genre.

I am 31 bro! Thanks for the compliment!!

We did grow up on different music, but I think its a testament to the power of that band that you and I who grew up over a decade apart have some overlap in the bands we enjoy!

yes, well said.

And I'm 52. "Meddle" and "Dark Side" were huge when I was in high school, "Wish You Were Here" and "Animals" both came out when I was in college.
