Pregnant woman 'Tasered' by police

Jay Cartwright said:
just because a person won't take your pen and make a mark is no excuse to drag them out of their vehicle and electrocute them!

Taser's are used as an ALTERNATIVE to brute physical force. Force which can go on for minutes and can damage property and injure people.

Tasers are also used as an ALTERNATIVE to lethal force. If a guy is swinging a wrench around -- a taser may be used to bring him down, rather than a bullet which could wind up killing him.

I would suspect this "altercation" between her and the cops had probably gone on for over a minute or two. With many blows, pushes, screaming, hitting, kicking, on both sides. Bruises galore. And she wasn't budging.

Since "letting her go" was not an option (in which case, all you have to do to get out of any arrest, is just be violent and resist for a few minutes -- great precedent) -- they decided to end the situation without further damage.

And it worked.

She's in custody. No more injuries. Situation resolved.

The taser worked perfectly as intended. Ask any cop how much they LOVE tasers. Ends fights within seconds with no one hurt. Rodney King would never have happend if they had tasers.

Now whether it should've been used, or if they should've kept choking, pushing, punching her til she gave in -- I wasn't there, so i have no idea.

But what we DO now is -- she wasn't intending on either signing or going to jail at all. She was gonna "dictate" the law on her own terms.

Conclusion: arrogant stupid bitch who is now bringing some baby into this world and teaching it her lovely LACK of intelligence, ethics and respect for the law.

10 bucks she's also on welfare and her pregnancy will be paid by you and I.

Lovely.

I hear you but it still sounds like a quick brutal solution to a minor situation.

I thought the taser gun was used against a potential threat? A pregnant woman sitting in a car doesn't present much of a threat unless it's provoked or manufactured into one by someone else. I doubt she was attacking them, it's far more likely that she was resisting being grabbed by another human which is a natural response when you're angry or frightened.

You rub anyone up the wrong way....they're gonna resist.

Of course refusing to comply with a police officer is the wrong course of action, but frying her with 50,00 volts is an equally bad call. Those things can put you out cold for up to 15 mins.

fucking nazi's...it was a speeding ticket....

I hope you get some shmuck prick cop who thinks he see's you do something wrong and fries your ass..

Don't fuck with Seattle's 5-0.

You didn't pay attention to my first alternative.

It is an alternative to more brute physical force, where people can get bruises, broken brones, pulled muscles, perhaps even more serious dangers like weapons being used, etc. which can further elevate an already tense situation.

For a pregnant woman -- it was better for her health-wise to get taser'd for 5 seconds, then to get into a 5-minute knock-out, drag-out street fight with 2 cops. All it takes is one misplaced kick to the stomach and she can lose the child.

Those 50,000 volts ended the situation peacefully with no one seriously hurt. People are failing to realize that.

And btw: cops can't go "Okay you're putting up too much of a resistence. We'll just let you go".

If that was the cause, everyone would put up a fight when asked nicely to go to jail. No one would ever go willingly to jail. Oh and every female would instantly be "pregnant". What an easy way to get out of a speeding ticket in the USA.

How about the bloke that refused to pull over for drink driving and was shot at over 95 times.I dont condone operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and think its stupid and endangers lives but I think the cops went a bit over board and cant believe they tried to murder him over a traffic offence.I know they have a shit off a job but some really do abuse their power and should concentrate more on non violent ways of apprehention.I cant tell you the amount of times unecessary force that is applied that clearly was not required.Maybe its a conspiracy to cut back on prison overloading.Think of the families of the offenders, even crims have loved ones that will be greatly affected by these methods and in the long run more damage is caused.I dont know the whole story and just used this event as an egsample but needed to express that violence and killing people is not the answer and is just as bad if not worse than not doing anything at all.I do aknowledge that force is the only option to protect innocent people in many circumstances.

On the flip side -- here's what happens when cops don't use lethal force. They get killed. Like what happened here last week when a cop tried to apprehend someone who was sitting in a car. This *easily* could've been that angry pregnant chick if she decided to "gun it".

Shows how even a simple situation like trying to get someone out of a car -- can instantly, in 2 seconds, turn deadly. Now a family has lost their father.

LAX Police Officer Killed as Stolen Patrol Car Drags Him - April 30th, 2005

He strikes a hydrant while trying to regain control of the cruiser from the suspect. Authorities arrest a homeless man.

"...As Sadowski drove away at high speed, Scott grabbed onto the driver's side of the vehicle, attempting to disable it and regain control, but the officer was dragged with the car and was killed when it collided with the fire hydrant, Vernon said."
