Possible to get off Thyroid meds?

I really don't know why he even put me on synthroid to be honest. After seeing him for so many years. One day out of the blue he decides to check my thyroid. And says I need Synthroid. It showed a little low. But then again, I did just get off of a cycle of Cytomel. LOL

Well, there's your answer.

So what can I do to get my own thyroid back to normal? A lot of bodybuilders use T3. And even in high doses. We all know this. And when they come off the T3 ( or T4 ). Their thyroids are slowed down for a while.

What can be done in order to bring the thyroid back up? And as quickly as possible? What are all the steps/foods/drugs etc etc in order to regain the thyroid?

As far as I know, there is nothing to "jumpstart" the thyroid. You just have to wean off thyroid meds and your thyroid should rebound by itself as you're weaning.

I take Synthroid which btw has a very long half-life. 6.5 days! Was taking 150mcgs per day. Is this something I can just stop taking? Or should I really decrease it down to 100mcg and then to 50mcg?

I wouldn't stop out right, just taper down every 5 days or so by 50mcg.

It would probably be useful to get a blood test for reverse T3 as well. T4 only therapy isn't typically a good idea. If you have too much T4 in your body and it can't convert to t3, or the t3 is pooling up in your blood because you have low cortisol, then T4 will turn into reverse T3. Reverse T3 is a mirror image of T3 except it is an inactive hormone. The problem with this is, it binds to T3 cell receptors and actually prevents real T3 from getting in.

This will cause more T3 to build up in the blood and your body will turn more T4 into RT3 in an attempt to avoid excess T3 in the blood.

It's a vicious cycle. If you have high RT3 that is probably why you aren't feeling any benefit from the thyroid meds you're taking.

Excellent sources for thyroid issues. I'm hypothyroid and was started with Synthroid and felt horrible. Do, I sought out a doctor that used Armour Thyroid. Now, I feel awesome.

See, I use Synthroid and Cytomel. Once for like a whole month I stayed on ONLY Synthroid without Cytomel. And I must say I too felt a little awful. Slow, weak and semi-sleepy. And getting out of bed was a real bitch! But then re-adding cytomel made a differnce.

When you say Synthroid made you feel like shit, what do you mean? Shit how? And why were you never put on cytomel as well?

Armour is superior to synthoid since it has the entire T2 T3 T4 spectrum and from a natural source. Some people with mild hypothyroidism have found tremendous success with ZIP Fat Burner | Weight Loss Supplements but if you've been on hormone therapy for over a year, you may be able to lower the dosage but most likely you'll still need some medication.

Nelson, do you use Armour? Or Sythroid/Cytomel combo?

What does T2 do?

So those (like me) that use Synthroid/Cytomel have LOW levels (or nonexistent) of T2?
