*PLEASE* Help a bro do CKD !!!! :) Interesting Questions here...

The ketogenic diet will work the same way any diet will work -- if you're in a calorie deficet.

Putting yourself in ketosis to do it is insane, unhealthy, and impractical.

ANY diet may be catabolic, but nearly as catabolic as one that excludes carbs.

I never lost as much muscle dieting as when I ate 60percent carbs 30 percent protein and 10 percent fat.

in CKD, I lose minimal strength or muscle.

I think many experience similar results

So many people against CKD does here

So there are more people against CKD down here huh ?

Now I'm not so sure I want to start CKD at all. I was thinking of trying CKD for a month or so (I don't need more than that actually). So even one month can be that bad....

There are a lot of different opinions on the subject. It works well for some, and some do not like it.

If you are going to do it, one thing is clear. Do NOT be half-assed. DO IT. Be VERY strict. You must do that to get into ketosis quickly.

Ok. Now what about Not going too far to CKD, and trying a High protein, moderate fat low carb diet ?

Say:
60% Protein 40% Fat 20% Carbs?

It's more sane than a Keto diet right? And more easy to get into I assume... ?

Thanks...

fitwizard: Of course that will work, as long as there's a calorie deficet. And it'll healthier

But that's too simple for some people to accept. They want to believe that their martyrdom has been rewarded. Or that their superior knowledge of nutrition and kinesiology is the reason for their success.

Maybe CKDs just work for some people?

Yeah, a part of dieting is in fact the individual's ability to stick with the regimen too, and maybe CKDs with their own unique profile provide a structure that works better for some people.

Also, there has been evidence that for a given caloric deficit, the amount of lean mass loss is less when in ketosis (with correct fat/protein balance) than uising a more "normal" or balnaced macro nutrient profile.

I think its more imprtant to talk abotu getting resuilts, not posturing and :being right" for the sake of saving face.

Is a keto diet healthy long-term? Like for the rest of your life? Probably not. But many other things we do and advocate here are probably not the best things to consider for a life-long plan either, but we choose to do them based upon weighing risk vs benefits for each of us.

KCDs do work for some people, period. I think its best for each person to decide what works best for him based upon knowledge, not posturing.

I think CKDs are a viable option for some people. There are many who have done them and had good results. To ignore that is in no ones interests.

nelson what makes you think that CKDs are more catabolic than other diets?

CKD is more catabolic than other diets for several reasons. For one thing, diets in general are quite as catabolic as they're made out to be, unless there's a SEVERE drop in calories. Adding aerobics makes it worse, of course.

It all comes down to stress. And forcing the body to use ketones for energy is extremely stressul.

Riker is on the money in one regard. The CKD is a set plan that people can follow and therefore get results. But then again, so is the Richard Simmons diet plan. In other words, the diet that works is the one you stick with long enough for the caloric deficet to work.

Everybody takes about preventing catabolism with steroids. Well, guess what? Carbs prevent catabolism. So a diet that excludes carbs...well, it's just dumb.

And as ar as evidence that shows CKD causes LESS muscle loss...I can't see how that can be possible, unless the tests were skewed or somebody managed to alter the laws of physics.
