The only time anyone ever says, "I didn't ask you to do that for me" is when "the person who *did something they percieved as being nice* throws that up in to the other person's face".
Standing up for what you believe to be is right is not a NICE thing to do. You don't do it because you want something back. You do that because you feel it is THE RIGHT THING TO DO.
Also by this train of thought I should be PISSED for all those who "didn't take up for my ass"? Come on, does that make ANY sense?
I have NEVER said, "I did this for you (even though you never asked me to) and THIS is how you repay me?" I just simply make a mental note and walk away. You should never EVER do something for another because you want something back. The fact that you thought you helped someone should be payment enough... no?
