Options for sports cars. Mustang? BMW? Other choices?

I've always driven a truck or sport utility of some kind (except for those awful married years when I had a Mazda 626). So for my next car, I want a sports car. I want it to have a V8 and rear wheel drive. Practicality tells me I have to have a back seat since I'm getting to the age when babies might come into the picture.

That pretty much narrows me down to the Camero/Firebird and the Mustang. I know the Camero is more powerful, but I don't like the styling. Which leaves the Mustang.

I'd consider something like a 2 door BMW 318 or 328, but aside from them being really expensive, there don't seem to be many engine performance upgrades.

Anyone have a Mustang? Any other ideas?

Acura 3.2 S-type.

0-60 in about 6 seconds.

You mean the RSX? It's a 4 cylinder front wheel drive. I want a V8 but might go down to a 6 if it can be modified fairly easily. Rear wheel drive is not negotiable though.

Nope. The RSX is a 3.0 liter, same as my CL. You're outta luck on the rear wheel drive though.

Go drive one of the S-types - you'll change your mind.

Dude if you want a fast practical car then consider the subaru wrx, 4 cylinders of turbo charged power. I believe this summer they will be out with a WRX STI, should have about 280 HP, and pull a 0-60 in about 4.6-4.8 seconds. 0-100 in 11 seconds. And that is stock.

Modify boost, intake, exhaust and maybe drop the gearing in the main transfer case and you are 0-60 in around 4 flat.

OR

Buy a used 300zx TT. they are powered by a 3.0 V6 24VDOHC. With the twin turbos, add a chip, exhaust, and intake and you are pushing 400HP. Not Enough?

Toyota Supra, a couple of basic free mods and others and you are pushing 400RWHP, which will turn out into about 450-475 crank. All this on a stock inline 6 cyl TT. And they can handle up to around 1100HP on stock internals.

All those cars make great daily drivers even when modified, and most important of all are reliable. So do not be too hung up on the piece of shit V8's the US puts in their cars. A good sports car has the right combination of power to weight ratio, weight distribution, handling etc... America just likes to put a big engine in a car and call it "sports" car. The current standard is 100HP per Liter, so 350 V8 which is about 5.7 liters would have to out out about 570HP, but they do not. Half assed engineering.

The US did get close with it's new vette. But that one was partially desognes in Europe, hence the groundbreaking design and such.

The only Jap cars worth the metal they were made of are the Supra twin turbos. Other than that - bang for your buck - a V8 mustang is a much better choice. My 1990GT runs 12's with only about $1500 in mods.

How about a 325ci, sports package and the download, I can't see why anyone would want to go faster than this would allow you to brother, honestly it gets sort of scary, you can get around anything within a blink of an eye, handle is solid, you could do this for less than 34 g's, just a thought. peace
