Is this because EF has become more mainstream?

I think they dropped the "Most Controversial Site on the Net" slogan some time ago, too.

I'm sure it's a mainstream/marketing thing.

Stopping personal attacks/insults is taking it a bit far IMO, it's like religion being forced upon us at such an early stage we have no control and follow the norm.

Even in real life no one puts that much control on people and prevents them from speaking out of tune.... oh except Bush....

A darn out right, uncalled for personal attack is too much but small digs here and there...

Oh well - my main board is the aas one and 'we are more civilised there' LOL

I don't know. Ask the people who like to talk like that to others. Its there problem to get people to come talk with them.

These people seem to think its such a great thing and every one loves it. So lets see if they are right. Lets see just how many people will be lining up at the door to get into a forum like that.

Flames are part of internet conversations and have been around since fidonet. The Newsgroups perfected the tactic. What occurs here is mild in comparison, due to the moderation that has been around. I, myself, don't enjoy the kaffeeklatsch, vanilla, moderated chat but have been living with it because I enjoy the people.
