A proper bench press should have your elbows ~45 deg to your body, should hit around lower chest/sternum area. Pull the bar into yourself, tighten up your lats/tri's, then explode back out. Just focus on adding a few lbs to the bar each week on each lift, your chest will catch up.
IMHO he would be better served by squatting three times a week, instead of benching... Mon, flat bench, wed, overhead press, fri, incline press
It's mostly for the triceps to get stronger, but yes when your holding the bar
for the bench your entire arm is holding it
