Md. Residents Kills one teen, wounds other for stealing his SUV

He should have called the police, then went outside, and made a warning shot in the air, and made the thieves lay down on the ground before the police gets there. Although he did not know whether those guys had any weapons. He did the best he could. He should not be penalized.

...

no... he should have been a better shot... and killed all four of them.

Then took their wallets and found out where they lived... killing all their immediate family members for raising such shitbags.

AT LEAST he managed to pour a little chlorine into the gene pool of one of their families.

True, but the family will try to get you and will win something. Happens all the time...

Well bro I don't know how it works in your state, in my state if someone breaks into your house you have legal right to protect your property with deadly force. Which if some asshole is stupid enough to break into my house all force is going to be deadly. Their family is shit outta luck so fuck them to.

Well, the 16yr old has been in /out of trouble with the law. You have no business breaking into someone else's car in the wee hrs of the morning. And if you get shot, thats the risk you take.. Play now, you pay later... Of course the guy will be charged for manslaughter for using deadly force to protect property. Then lose in civil court cause the family will sue.

In August 2000, Sockwell was arrested in the District and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle -- he allegedly was driving it -- and with receiving stolen property, according to juvenile court and social work records. The charges were dropped that November at the request of the city's lawyers, though it is unclear why.

Last October, the records show, Sockwell was detained briefly at the District's Oak Hill Youth Center on a charge of being a juvenile fugitive from justice in Prince George's. Caseworkers with the city's Department of Human Services reported that Sockwell tested positive for drugs and that he told them he regularly smoked marijuana. It was not clear yesterday what charges Sockwell faced in Prince George's.

If my kid was shot at because he was trying to steal someone's property I'd let him rot and find his own way out.

He'd get no help from me nor would he be welcome in my house.

Question: Was this white on white crime? Black on black? Black on white.....

Not even attempting a race card play on this case- but considering the impact (legally) on the shooter and the local community's backlash if this were to be labelled a "racist incident".

Are you serious Velvett? You'd really be able to live knowin your kid was out there sellin his/her ass to get their fix? Jesus that's a bit harsh , kids make mistakes all the time , ok so grand theft auto is a bit of a stretch but my blood is still my blood , I'd never turn my back. The fact that my kid is turning out shit may well be a reflection on whatever the hell I did (or didnt do) as a parent.

From what I see children have absolutely no fear instilled into them and as far as I'm concerned it was his parents that enabled his behavior.

If a child has the slightest amount of respect for his/her parents or family name he/she would be afraid to shame their family.

I little fear goes a long way and there's a different between making a mistake and making a habit.

That 16 year old wasn't making his first mistake - it was just one of many transactions. You as a parent had the option of straightening out the kid the first (2nd, 3rd, 4th?) time and you are responsible to place some sort of limit on how many second chances you will offer.

ok , ok I can buy that , but I still think my kids' behaviour is a lot to do with the way I raised 'em , therefore you cannot and should never turn your back on them.
