List Of Carbs And Protien

minimusglutamus

New member
I am wondering if anyone can type up a list of carbs, and a list of protien. I am extremely new to this and keep reading about everyone monitoring their intake of both. I am looking for a list of actual foods, cause I already do shakes/supplements. Go easy on me...cause like I said I am new.

welcome to the boards!!!

well... you've asked a very loaded question.. i mean there are so many foods out there and they basically fit into one category or the other (with the exception of lard and other all fat products) soo... lets just start like this and provide a few quick examples...

"good" sources of protein include - chicken, fish, lean cuts of beef, egg whites

"good" sources of startchy or complex carbs include - oatmeal, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, veggies, whole wheat bread products (100% ww)

"good" sources of simple carbs include - fruits, carb drinks (a lot of people ignore simple carbs which are generally in the form of the 'evil' sugar, but simple carbs following a workout are a great way to replenish depleted glyceron stores quickly, allowing the body to recover faster and get nutrients to the muscles that have been worked... don't leave them out, just get good ones!)

"good" souces of fats include - flax seed (oil), fish, all natural peanut butter

basically a good diet will have all (or a high majority of) calories from clean, unprocessed foods such as the ones listed before... stay away from food that has things you cant pronounce on the label has always been one of my rules... better yet, stay out of the internal of the grocery store entirely except for soap, and oats :)

if you read the past posts and use the search button here and on the diet board, you will find a lot of good examples of diets that you can use to create a plan that works for you based on your current stats and goals...

good luck

AMEN phem!! and yes.. WELCOME TO THE BOARD:D . another great source of protein is fat free or low fat cottage cheese. stay away from crakers and all those "fat free" foods. its all empty calories and carbs and oh sooo much sugar u dont need! green veggies are the best and the best types of fruit to eat are berries or any kind. salmon is an excellent protein too so if u like that..eat up!!

Hi and welcome:) Phem covered a lot of the basics...just keep it simple. Make sure you are taking in 1-1.5 grams of protein per lb. Eating 5-6 meals a day and drinking 1-1.5 gallons of water a day. Stay away from processed foods, sugar, soda....and those low fat and fat free foods!!! They are junk! Prepare your own meals so that way you know exactly what you are eating. I usually spend sunday making meals and putting them in plastic containers in the fridge for the next week. That way they are ready to go, and keeps you from eating something you shouldn't cause you there is no time to cook. What are your goals? your age, height, weight, bodyfat etc??? give us a little more info of what you are trying to accomplish so we can better help you. Research the boards, there is TONS of good info, and knowledge is power!!

Thanks for the info! You are all great help! I have been reading the boards for a month now and find you all so useful.
Here is me in a nut shell......
I am 5'6, 135-140lbs depending on the day. I lift 4 days/week. And cardio 4 days/week/30 min. I lift heavy weights w/ low reps. I am not concerned about getting fat. I dont mind weight. I like to eat. I drink plenty of protien (220 grms). I take a good multi, flax oil, and glutamine. I eat every 2-3 hrs, and drink a little bit of water. No where near what I should! I do drink my share of coffee. Should I cut that out? (please say no) I have no idea what my body fat is. I had a baby 10 months ago, so have lil fat still from that. My boyfriend competes as a BB, and I have learned what I know just from watching him. I wanted more useful info, thats why I came to you guys! THANKS A BUNCH!! ALL IS APPRECIATED!!

Well sounds like you got the regimen down as well as the correct mind set! And 10 months post-kid - congrats! I have a friend who is just starting to lose her post-baby fat as her kid turns 5.. And she was as big as a house BEFORE and AFTER.

If you can, try to cut down on the caffeine or substitute in some decaf tea or something. Green tea is a great anti-oxidant and will give you a little boost in the morning too. Another kick in the pants in the morning is water w/ a quarter lemon squeezed in (not the plastic squeeze stufff) - just slam that first thing, and 3 minutes later you are wide awake! Diet colas are another one to avoid... that was hard for me to give up - I was addicted to diet Coke - but no Coke for you... 2 months and counting! And when you get that stuff out of your system, all of a sudden you realize just how good water does taste! I also buy cranberry juice and mix in like 1/2 c w/ a lot of ice water for something that has some flavor when I need it. It also mixes good w/ seltzer water for something diff.

Oh, DID I MENTION THAT I AM 23 (again).... LOL! j/k
