He has been going to the gym with me since he was 9 to learn how to act and not to act ect. Just hanging out. At 10 I let him do little stuff, lots of empty bar shit to learn form and safety. Last year I had him doing a bunch more stuff. This past off season he has been going and doing as much as he can between growth spurts. when his joints get sore from a growth spurt I dont let him do anything.
He decided to give up all sports a couple years ago to focus on just football. HE wants to play pro ball..and he actually has a shot genetically. Therefore he is getting a head start years before anyone else with diet, life, training ect. He eats to grow bro. I dont have him on a cutter or anythhing. Strictness for diet as it pertains to him at his point just means he needs to eat 5 or 6 times a day. I let him have plenty of junk food. I just dont let him be 99% of everyone else and sit in front of the tv shoveling ice cream and chips 24/7 being a lazy piece of typical american populous garbage. He thinks fat people are disgusting. Example, His school lunch is 7-8 oz of chicken breast chopped up with his choice of what he wants on it. Some rice, a snack or two and water. The water is HIS choice. He has a huge breakfats and also has a shake with him for pre football practice.
He gets to do plenty of kid things. He gets to have lots of fun. He trains when its time to train and bust his balls. Then he gets to do whatever he wants. Im not an ogre bro. I am an asshole when its time to train. its business. When we are done we are done. I have given him countless lectures and talks to make sure he knows the difference between the way I act during training and that any motivational yelling and screaming is for his own benefit. he knows that. he's a good natured kid. His humor, understanding and intelligence is a few years beyond his actual age. I tell him when he gets annoyed with me making him do another set or whatever,,,, "well your either going to thank me when you get your signing bonus and realize why I was so rough on you or your going to hate my ass" towhich he smiles and says whatever dad, I wont hate you.
He has seen me live the life style since he was born so its not like its culture shock to him either. When I'm not injured, he is actually been my training partner this last 8 months or so. He loves it when I can train with him.
I grew up playing ball with buster posey. his dad beat baseball into his head from little league all the way through high school and college. he didnt live the life of a typical high schooler and now he's not your typical 26 year old, being worth $170 mil.
a lot of kids do burn out, but for the ones who want it, it works
