Incline Presses & Flyes - Waste of Time and Energy?

I used to think like Willet but recent experience has changed my mind.
I'd started on one of those Russian volume programs and found it strange that flys were always part of the schedule. I decided to do them as written and re-evaluate.
In this particular case, they were always done sandwiched between two compound lifts. So I'd do bench, then fly, always followed by some form of squat or DL. This allowed for a bit of a 'breather' between sets of heavier stress, allowing you to continue lifting- keeping your intensity up. This improves your overall conditioning and work capacity, one of the goals of the program.
I also agree with what timtim wrote about them not being a mimic of a press and so having unique muscle recruitment. Including flys provided a new form of stimulus and led to some good upper body development. Form, of course is important, as is realizing what they're for in your progression of exercises, not just tacking them on as something to do after you bench.

You cant tell me flyes do not build muscle. When you use muscle like you do when do ing flyes you cause damage, ripping and tearing just like you do with any BB movement. Then you eat then rest then do it again. This process is cally building muscle.

When you tear a muscle it rebuilds bigger. Im gunna call bullshit on Flyes are worthless. Incline presses do not isolate the upper chest, they put more emphasis on the upper chest therefore more work then next tearing the muscle more and you start the whole process above again. It is not fucking rocket science.

I would have to agree. I have always found flyes (...flies? flys? whatever...) very helpful, and have always heard about others' success through doing them.

i say everyone doing flys show some pec pics of themselves.. and ill some mine with no flys being used and we compare.. i bet my chest is as full as any one doing flys..this will prove there not needed!!!

you have no clue and your moronic posts prove that. the fact you dont know how to do flies right might be the reason you dislike them so much. and when i moving 100 lbs. dbs for sets of 8 im sure i have no chest. clueless.

I hope when you say moving 100 lb dbs your talking about db bench, if not I would love to see you use 100s for flys.

whenever you like come on down. been lifting for 19 years now. i can move a shitload of weight on most all exercises. comes with the experience. i dont need to exaggerate my shit online. 100 for flies is not alot at my gym. its above average. and i can move the 110s for 6. the 150s, 160s, and 170s are routinely used for db bench at my gym. the 200s come out a few times a month too. theres a stable of 50 year olds and up who put me to shame. deads over 500, i got 480 on saturday, and squats with 6 plates for sets of 8. after all this time lifting and dieting i better be moving that weight or im just wasting my time.
